Parked on a steep hill and now runs rough?

Hi all,

I just nipped out in my 2007 e85 2.0 and I had to park on a very steep hill (nose up). When I got back in 10 minutes later the car runs really rough, won't rev and sounds like the exhaust is blowing! It was fine when I parked up so I can't think what has happened in the 10 minutes I was parked. Is it possible I have somehow flooded a breather or something else?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks, Jonners

Have you tried parking on the same hill facing the opposite way for 10 minutes?

That would be my first course of action. Then park it on the flat for a good while to let everything 'settle'.

I sold a car once because I thought the turbo was on it's way out as the exhaust smoked on start up. Turns out it was oil dribbling into the turbo from being parked on a steep hill a lot.

Engine Management light now on so at least I can plug it in and see what code comes up.
Three codes. Two N/A which I assume means my crappy reader can’t read them and PO366 which according to the book is a camshaft sensor but no idea if that is true?

Update: Changed both camshaft sensors and no better, I now assume that it has jumped a tooth and timing is out as that is what it sounds like. Booked into BM specialist as this is now outside of my (very limited) experience.

Hm don't see why parking on an incline would knock out a sensor. You need to invest in a creator 310 plus to read those other codes. Were you a bit low on fuel at the time. I would investigate crud getting into the fuel pump or filter.

Assumption is the mother of all f@@k ups remember.
However, if you are stuck then maybe it is time for a garage to look at it.
I was racking my brains to work out a scenario where an incline would cause the timing to slip. Only vaguely plausible idea I can come up with is if you left it in gear and then forgot and tried to start it. Possibly the jolt could upset the timing but I struggle to justify it personally.

I did suggest that a few posts up?

Update: The Zed is finally back on the road after a long wait for my local BM specialist to get it in. It was the timing chain guide that had broken up meaning that the chain had jumped a couple of teeth, thus sending the timing out. The guide had broken up and bits were in the sump but the strainer did it's job and kept them in the sump. Lots of new parts and a hefty labour cost but we are back running!
