Paranoid owner

 Lancs.
Is it just me or are there other owners out there who having read all the reports of faulty cars become paranoid about their own perfectly functioning motor?
Mine's faultless so far, but I find myself waiting for the roof motor to pack in, the DISA valve to fail, the dash warning lights to come on, the rear springs to go, the fogs to mist up, the CD changer to pack in, the steering to develop a wobble, the car to start tramlining, the central locking to play up, the door to start leaking, the lights to stop working, the electric windows to fail . . . . . . . . Oh and not forgetting a mysterious metal clanging noise to appear

Perhaps I should stop reading the problems thread
:(

I must say, out of all the cars I've had this is the one I get paranoid about the most.
The roof motor especially. One fog light has misted up already. Just waiting for the other one.

Every morning I sit and plead all the dash lights to go out. Not sure why I'm like that with this car. I haven't been with any others.

You're not alone but I find that time and familiarity helps. . . .

We shall see.....(Fingers crossed, touch wood, etc etc) :D

I couldn't care less. My car gets quite a lot of punishment but that's because it's meant to be driven. If it breaks I'll just roll up my sleeves and fix it. :driving:

Stop reading about the problems that might never happen.
Oh and never buy a TVR you'd never sleep at night.

I had a TVR and because I couldn't sleep at night I went back and did a deal to get back to my original MX5 - expensive lesson.

:driving:

I remember when I first bought my Z4... a couple of days later I was driving with the roof down and the sun caught the dash at an angle that made all the symbols visible - they weren't actually lit up but for a moment you just saw the dash get very 'busy', lets just say not being used to the car only having had it a couple of days, I 'clenched'...

I go on a few forums and there all full of people paranoid about supposed common faults .I look at it this way there must be gazillions of your particular car out there how many posts on forums do you read about them never going wrong at all . not many why because people only talk about the bad things and usually it will be maybe 10% of the owners who have problems some of these cars will have been thrashed abused not looked after never serviced ect ect .stop worrying and have fun in it .(I have a vw caddy 1.9tdi bls engine everyone tells me they snap conrods and to get shot its got 156k on it and is running like a sewing machine )

you forget to mention the VANOS....or double VANOS (model dependent).
VANOS must be a word with a hundred letters in it in German, yah?
Stevo

Totally paranoid - especially about the bag of spanners noise of my engine. I just go for a hoon and forget about it. Roof motor went on my last one... s**t happens :D

My mate recently bought a 2012 BMW 318i M Sport, 20k miles, still relatively new. In his 3 weeks of ownership it's been back to the dealers 7 times for multiple issues including needing a new diff and timing chain replacement. As Bing says, sh*t happens, even on the newer beemers :|

When connecting to the forum, stick only to the lounge section
When you love your car, you can be tempted to be pro active against all potential issues. But over maintaining your car will most likely not increase your pleasure to drive it. You'll just go from on issue to another and forget how to enjoy the ride! Right now just look for the sunny days to come and relax, at the lounge...

Beer for you my friend. You nailed it :)

The Zed is like having a small baby. Constantly needs attention. Usually is the little things priced around 80GBP. I can still live with that. It's (poor) mechanical/electrical/plastic design by Germans, built by Americans. But the one thing that irritates me the most is the badge. How can a badge break down. Like stops working. I'm surprised they didn't put a sensor underneath it to let you know when it's time to buy a new one (obviously made from gold) for a price of 24.49 GBP. For a badge. I mean really which brand also have a badge which stops working? :)
