ive been reading around as i really want to have a go at doing my car nice over easter.

so ive been collecting up bits to do it with and im just ordering the rest of the bits.

ive got a bit confused on how to go. is this the right method, ive quoted some products from poor boys as i like the ones from them i already have (open to suggenstions)

snowfoam/prewash
handwash double bucket
dry using microfibre cloths not chamois
clay bar using lube (bilt hamber normal)
optional qick wash again
swirl remover (using something like poor boys ssr)
glaze (poorboys black hole)
wax/polish (poorboys natty blue)
seal (poor boys ex-p sealant although not sure on this)

Never go sealant over wax, if you really want to use both sealant first (to nice clean paintwork) then wax over, but normally just pick one or the other.

Thanks for the link

Really one or the other? Most places I've read say use both but tbh I can't see why. Just seemed like both make it shiney

Well as I said if you really want both go wax over sealant, but IMO doing both is just a waste of product. A decent sealant will normally last longer than a wax and give a glassy kind of finish, whereas a wax will give a much deeper richer finish.
As I said sealant over wax is a big no-no because the sealant won't bond to the wax well and it really is just a waste of product.
Personally I do a quarterly full contamination and seal and for normal washes, I use a wax based qd just to keep it looking fresh.

thats what i meant before just a waste. i had a read about today while i was bored in a seminar about bum precancer (yes it was pretty dull and grim) and i could find no reason why do both other than it give a very deep wet shine.

i was looking at the quick detailers. they seem a good idea between glazes

what do you do for a full contamination? use something like the SSR range from poorboys? i was a bit worried about using these as they seem to basically take the clear coat down and i would worry that doing this too much may just end up doing the paint in

sounds like doms a little poorboys obsessed!

why not remove the swirls instead of temporarily filling them? Get a DA polisher for £100 and 3 mezernas polishes for like £30, 2 hex logic pads at £8 and you'' be able to produce a really nice finish on the car.

probably a bit more expensive then the poorboys route and alot more time consuming but so worth it when your paint is so shiny and smooth.

haha :) ive got a couple of their bits for wheels and interior and i quite like them but always open to suggestions. quite like autoglym too. i think its just i found some good explanations of stuff and they used the poorboys products amongst others as examples.

Im too wary of the DA polisher route and i want to use some of these on a gelcoat car. i recon if i do a crap job filling etc and really screw it up then atleast some one who knows can fix it with a polisher for me.

Im not sure on the thickness of the clear coat but i do know the colour layer is stupidly thin in places after i tried to fix the nose after hitting pheasant.

I use auto finesse stuff, does the job really well. Their sealant Tough Coat is SO easy to apply.

A full decontamination is tar remover, iron remover and then clay in that order.
