Paintwork advice needed

Hi all,
Hopefully someone can help, and has maybe made the same mistake as I have.

I have a few light scratches on the passenger side rear arch of the zed. Pretty sure they're caused by a neighbours cat!

Anyway, I rather foolishly thought T-cut scratch remover would help.
Only it's left the paintwork looking dull. My zed is sapphire black metallic.
Can anyone advise on what I should do/buy to get the shine back?

I've read that meguires scratch X is worth trying.

Anybody got any ideas??

I wouldnt use any of these commercial scratch removers. They will all cause this dullness or holograms if you dont have access to the right equipment to finish the job. The ideal solution would be to find a professional detailer (or knowledgable amateur) that has a machine polisher. They will be able to correct the problem in a jiffy.
If for whatever reason you cannot go down this route then buy a bottle of autoglym Super Resin Polish and get rubbing. The SRP is a milder polish that will break down better as you hand polish. The result is that it will not leave dullness in the paint. It also contains fillers that will mask any problems you dont manage to correct.
Just remember it is a polish and you will have to use a fair amount of elbow grease to get good results. Apply and remove with a quality microfibre cloth

Forgot to mention- Once you have finished with the polish remember to wax the car to protect the paintwork. Any previous protection will be removed with the polish.
Also avoid taking the car to a bodyshop to be "mopped". Always use a reputable detailer. There is a list of them in your area on the detailing world website if you choose to go down this route.

The scratches caused by cat's claws should be very minor. As sideshowbob suggested, AG SRP is the safest and best way for removing those scratches. Did you use the T-cut metallic, or original T-cut?

zymol cleaner wax also claims it can remove swirl marks and scratches.

What the tcut ( :o ) will have done is put a plentiful supply of finer scracthes into the paint.
SRP will only mildly lift the look and fill it with its kaoline fillers which wont last long at all, it will soon fall back to how it first looked.
Best off getting a finishing polish like meguiars #80, menzerna po106fa final finish or sonus sfx3 and work them in well in and around that area to feather the finish and burnish it back to shiny a nice

Thanks for the advice guys.
I was in Tesco tonight and spotted the AG SRP. So thought i'd give it ago as a simple manual task.

the results are amazing.

Dullness is nowhere to be seen, and the scratches are pretty much gone, unless you get right up close and know where to look!

Hopefully this finish will remain. But like Scottbt said, it's likely to return to how it was. Fingers crossed it lasts a while.

thanks again for all the advice. :D

After I washed the car this afternoon, I found a 20-mm long hairline scratch above the n/s/r wheel arch. I used zymol cleaner wax, which claims it can remove swirl marks and minor scratches. It did significantly reduce the visibility of the scratch. I think I may buy more zymol cleaner wax from Halfords when 3 for 2 is still on (£12.99 a bottle). :) I like that smell and colour.

Anyone else here tried zymol cleaner wax before?

I have been thinking about the grey colour for my next Z as I thought the grey would not show scratches (a bit like Titanium Silver) is this not so? :?

Space Grey is not as good as Titanium Silver, but is better than Deep Sea Blue for sure. I found 2 hairline scratches on the bonnet, and one on the wheel arch so far. But remember, I check every panel very closely (i.e. 6 inch) after car wash :headbang: , and those scratches can only be seen under sunlight.

Zymol cleaner wax is the turtlewax rebranded product that zymol asked them to manufacturer for them.
its a good AIO but not one I purposefully would purcahse as it dries way to quick and is a mare to remove without micro marring the paintwork.
Its best applied sparingly on half a panel then removed so it doesnt fully cure.

find the woots t-cut thread where he did his whole car and managed to get it back to shiny
silver doesnt seem to show marks or dust too much which is handy
