Painting the black headlight housings...

No reason at all why the black inners could not be painted any colour using a plastic specific paint if you can get to them.... Here's my X5 I did that were black and sprayed matt silver:
The only problem on a Z4 is that the headlights cannot be opened so you have to chop up a sacrificial set to be able to rebuild from using backs from one pair and lenses from another. That may make the project uneconomic to do

There aren't many people who have successfully split the headlamps, once again cj10jeeper will help you with this, or read some of his recent posts to see how he made his xenons into proper angel eyes.
If you car is silver or grey you'd be better using headlamps from a 3.0 instead.
