Painting calipers

What's the general opinion on DIY caliper painting?
I read an article yesterday by Brembo who are happy to supply but gave out a number of warnings for those who want to do the work themselves

If you don’t know how the caliper operates or where not to apply the paint you could compromise its operation, causing it to bind etc

Thank you. I am quite familiar with the operation but even if I painted them they will never look as good as an OEM item

It depends on how they are done really. They can look decent if time is taken. I had mine done, they were fully removed from the car, stripped, sandblasted, and then painted in a 3 stage pearlescant orange. Pic below:

I had mine professionally painted, you could DIY and it would look ok but for best results get it done professionally. Here's mine:

Front calipers are alloy and paint lasts, but the rears are steel, so i find i need to paint them every year, as the rust breaks through.

Personally I would just bite the bullet and get a set of brembo calipers if they do them for the Zeeeee

Thanks everyone. I will have a look at the calipers over Christmas and then decide what to do. The ones in both photos look really good so what sort of cost was involved and who did you use

I used my local body shop here in Malaga, it cost me around 100 to 120€ for all four including painting the hubs.

I painted mine when they were replaced. No issues with them. They are simply black though so any imperfections I may have created don't show. :D

I Had mine refurbed and professionally painted by "Big Red" more than happy with result

I DIYed mine some years ago when I changed my discs and pads. I think they came out well but not as smooth as the pro jobs here.

Job for the Spring! There are a few companies in the South (UK) that look to do good jobs on Caliper Refurbs. I'd just be worried that they wouldn't bleed the brakes properly afterwards as the DSC Pump needs bleeding using INPA. Might well just paint myself in situ...

I'm trying to decide the best colour for the callipers on my Black e86. Currently leaning towards orange. Don't want red , but maybe light blue (?) :? :driving:

You can't go wrong with graphite, then put some ECB xxxStuff for some contrast (and less brake fade) if you wish.

I use a kit from BCS

Easy to use and very durable 2 pack paint
