Painted hubs and calipers...

We shall see if it is posted

Hooray - found out how to post photos - will try to get some National photos posted now.

PS would advise anyone thinking of painting their calipers to have a go

I used two wire brushes to clean off the rust and muck
Painted with Hammerite silver (other colours are available! - I liked the orange calipers on a silver Zed at the National)
Car is easy to jack up with clear jacking points on raised blocks under sills - nice one BMW
Gives a chance to clean the wheel arch linings too - and give the wheels a good clean whilst there off.

:driving:

I want to know what paint pen you used for your tyres please. I got a crap one off ebay for like 99p and it's horrendous. want a good qaulity one like yours... can you link me to where you bought it plz?

Looking good there mate, did mine as well recently. Much better to have silver calipers and hubs than the standard BMW rust

Thanks all - as some hsve said, well worth doing.

The lettering on the tyres is because I loved Customcar magazine in the 70s and 80s - all tyres lettered then and I still love it!

The lettering pen was bought from a motorcycle shop many years ago - I lettered all my bike tyres. It has a ball bearing inside which mixes paint when tube shaken and it must be good quality as its still working. The point retracts as pressure is applied to pump paint to point.
Company name/logo is Polco - tyre paint Lettering Pen 10ml

Have fun! :driving:

Hmm. I like it, but if I were gonna go through the trouble I'd make them either yellow or red..
I thnk ill stay with the off black that mine are, covers up the brake dust well : )
Nice job though.

done the rears at the weekend. will do the fronts next weekend.

car is a nightmare to jack up and get on the axel stands as my trolley jack doesnt fit under the car. :x

p.s I like the white writing on the tyres 8)

Love the white lettering, it's now my next job, painted one side of the cars callipers yellow tonight, the other side tomorrow, nice job.

Good job.

Ahhh white lettering that brings back memories of my Mini days spending hours filling in the letters on a set of 10" minilites shod in Dunlop SP Sport rubber :geek:

Still love the minilite wheels!

Yep - certainly worth the effort to clean up those rusty calipers and hubs.

Looks like I'm never gonna re-ignite the trend for lettering - I still love it and will continue!

:driving:

I used to paint the letters on my bike tyres back in the 80's not sure I'd do it now but does look good on old hot rods.
