Paint cracking cause...?

Does anyone know what causes this type of paint cracking, is it too much heat from polishing or something else? I used a cheap orbital with some Autoglym Super Resin Polish on our 330 today but I'm not sure if this was there before or not...

Thanks

Steve

Do you know if it has had any paintwork done at some point, also what panel is it? If you have had any paint work done then it is usually caused by the primer not been allowed to fully dry before the base coat is applied. If not then could be stress cracks or a breakdown of finish due to prolonged exposure to sunlight, moisture, and extreme temperature changes. Dont think you have caused it by using a DA though.

Similar has happened on the bonnet of our E91.
At some point in its past there has been bird s**t on it that hasn't been cleaned off quickly enough looking at the shape of the damage.
Possible it was already there and you have only just noticed while working on it today?

It's the front driver's door just below the wing mirror. Not sure if it's had paintwork before but I think it may have. I'm not going to stress over it as there's nothing I can do short of a respray. We might sell it soon anyway, I fancy an RS4... instead of the Z4... :-o

Bird crap will do this if left on unprotected paintwork - I had the same issue on the roof of a previous car (with factory paint).

Unlikely in this instance given it's underneath the door mirror, so out of the 'line of fire' and op suspects previous bodywork in the area. Agree if it were on a horizontal surface where it sits and dries on
