P2098 and p2096

Here is my experience with P2098 and P2096
I purchased a 2005 Z4 2.5 5 spd with 106000 KM.
It was missing its gas cap and the intake boot was torn at the usual spot. Corrected both, cleared codes. No check engine light for 2000 KM until 108000 KM after changing my oil and Valve cover gasket. Light on one code P2273. Cleared code then it returned with additional fault codes. P2273 plus P0158 and P2098. Since I purchased the car from a estate I had been trying to obtain service records as the service manual says to replace all Lambda sensors and Spark plugs at 100,000 KM. The records showed the oil was replaced every 6 months. Brakes and Top Motor also. I replaced all 4 Lambda sensors,Spark Plugs, cracked vacuum cap, Disa O Ring. Cleared codes and two driving cycles later P2098. Swapped rear Lambda sensor plugs. Cleared and code was off for three weeks until thinking it was fixed I reinstalled the two engine covers. Two driving cycles later P2096. At this point I'm thinking the Lambda sensor attached to bank 1 rear was faulty. Running with the sensor disconnected I confirmed the original connections to the rear Lambda sensors was correct. So swap rear Lambda sensor cables back to original and the code should come up P2098. Now the codes are P2098 and P2096. Undid each Lambda sensor and rerouted the cables from the connections on top of the intake to the rear sensors and the same for the two front sensors. Cleared codes and it has not returned in over 1400 KM now.
Suspect the wiring was tight to sensor with engine movement tugging on it or poor connection at connections to main harness as P2098 and P2096 can come on after the cats are at operating temp and the computer sees no signal from the rear lambda sensor. Heater circuits on both were operating. Maybe the rear Lambda sensors have a common ground.
So if you are having trouble with these two codes try rerouting/checking the rear Lambda cables.
Hope this helps
