Hi All,
I am cosidering Part exchanging my Z4 but have no Idea what a decent offer will be. Has anybody had a P/X valuation for their Z4 recently?

My car is a 2003 3.0 Z4, 34,500 miles, 4 owners with a good spec - Profesional Sat Nav, TV, Xeonon's, New England extended leather, 6 cd changer, Park Distance control. Car is in great condition, 4 new tyres, Rear Springs replaced & just had a new Roof motor.

Any idea's on what i should expect as a P/X value.

Thanks

Pete

According to CAP consumer valuations your car's trading in value is between £5500 and £5895 - bearing in mind the way all car dealers give you nothing for your car but then add at least £1500+ on when it goes on the forecourt I suspect this is about right.

I would think your best bet is to try selling it privately although at this time of the year the market is at its lowest.

Personally if your car is as good as you describe I'd keep it and enjoy at least to the spring.

Good luck anyway with whatever you decide.

how do you get CAP consumer val;uations , can you get them online?

Hi. A Ford main dealer in Croydon has got a grey one on his forecourt and is asking £9k.

seems a bit high but at the same time they're dealers - they will argue they have to put everything right that might include new tyres etc , then no doubt it will be serviced and given a new MOT and will be sold with a warranty - none of this would normally be given with a private sale.

Buyers are fickle in that they will pay over the odds to a dealer , particularly main dealers for what they perceive as peace of mind.

I have an 03 reg 3.0 with 29k miles - even with no part exchange I still paid £9k but negotiated some cosmetic bodywork , 6 months road tax , 2 rear tyres and 12months warranty. Since I've had the car ( for 3 months ) I've brought it up to my standard so its almost as new but if I traded it in I bet I would still only be offered £6k - the way I see it the car is worth what I paid for it to me - if I had bought a new Z4 I would have lost a lot more than £3k even after only a few months.

Sod what values are in the book - these cars are unique and great to look at and drive.

Wow! According to this website my car is worth over a grand more than the CAP figure and two grand more on the forecourt . How can two websites can be so far apart ?

I think dealers still quote Glasses guide - the one that only masonic lodges seem to have access to !

PeteUKz4 - have you tried to get a part exchange figure from a dealer? Would be worth testing a dealer to see what sort of figure they could come up with .

I'm going to a dealer tomorrow. It will be interesting to see what they offer as CAP and the other website are way different in there valuations

I would say yours is worth @ £ 7500. BUT, expect a bid from the dealer of about £ 5k. He will offer it to his trade contacts who will underwrite an offer. If the traders can find a quick home for it, you'll get a better price. PX'ing will always get you a crap price for your car,but you pay for the convenience. If you can afford to hang on and sell privately, you'll get a massive amount more for it.AND you can haggle for a deal on the new one.

I was offered £5k for my 53 reg. 3.0si last week in px against an £18k motor at a BMW dealer. Thought it a bit low and was hoping for £6,500. Will wait and see if he calls me next week.

Re: Glasses valuations, I got 4 of them on different cars when buying my coupe, £3.95 a time from their website. Proved pretty accurate on dealer prices, but also gave private sale and trade in valuations. Looks like they've changed their website in last few weeks, but I found the info very helpful.

...or via here: http://www.networkq.co.uk/buying/value-your-car/

:P

To be fair I've been informed the prices accessed via the above link are a month beind the actual Glasses Guide book. But bear in mind that these are GUIDES only: they only reflect what's happened in the past and not book price tells the full story about how well a car is selling, what's most desirable at the time, etc. I occassionally get a peek at a Glasses Guide (the real one!) and it's a scary reading on the Z4s :(

Dont know what a trade in value would be (try Parkers perhaps?). But for your info, I bought my 2003 3.0i about 4 months ago with excatly the same milage, 2 owners and it cost me £8250. Deduct whatever the dealer markup is and thats your figure

Those CAP figures are well undervalued in my opinion. I always use wisebuyers. I've compared it to Glass's (via the networkQ link) and they are never more than £500 apart..

Hmm you're right there are a few below the mark but then again the sites cant be updated for time of year market changes, I think its just because of this for those 2/3 are under the value..

I'm working on my own depreciation calculator with the following figures:

Age Value Retained
New 100%
0 90%
1 75%
2 60%
3 50%
4 42%
5 33%
6 29%
7 26%
8 22%
9 19%
10 15%

Its not perfect but a good starting point and seems to work for all cars (smaller engined cars do hold their value better)

If you multiply the 100% column by the initial OTR price (inc options) and so on going down you can get some decent stats:

ie: Z4 Coupe I've been looking at:

Age Value Retained
New 100% £37,290
0 90% £33,561
1 75% £27,968
2 60% £22,374
3 50% £18,645
4 42% £15,662
5 33% £12,306
6 29% £10,814
7 26% £9,695
8 22% £8,204
9 19% £7,085
10 15% £5,594
