Oxygen sensor fault code

Hey everyone,
My code reader read a faulty code yesterday, code returned after erasing it. No warning lights and car drives very well. It is very slightly unstable in terms of RPM when idle.
The code reads as follows:
29A7 Oxygen sensor before cat. conv. , bank 1 : signal

Would appreciate any helpful input, I'm not planning on doing it myself but I'm going to need to order the right part(s) online.
BMW Z4 2004 3.0i automatic with 160,000 kms on the clock

Have you disconnected the battery lately? If so, just put a few highway miles on it and it'll disappear. :driving:

I believe it's been like 6 months since I replaced the battery to a new one, and I have put a few highway miles on it since. :)

Ideally, I was hoping for someone with knowledge in reading these codes to point me to the right parts I'm supposed to purchase and replace.
Oxygen sensor before catalytic converter bank 1
Does it say enough to know which part has gone bad?

Oxygen sensors are laid out in banks, which refer to cylinders and in sensor numbers referring to before or after the catalytic converter. Bank 1 or B1 refers to cylinders 1-3. Bank 2 or B2 refers to cylinders 4-6. ... Sensor 2 or S2 refers to the sensor after the catalytic converter.

It appears yours is bad, can you use diagnostics to see live data, if you can when viewed with engine running the lambda should be producing a regular rising and falling graph pattern as the voltages go up and down producing a nice wave pattern. If it isn't doing this then its gone bad and needs replacement. If you viw the post cat sensors they dont move much if at all, they produce a pretty static flat line but may move a bit with engine revs increasing.

The code you have is pointing to No.1 in the diagram.

Thank you for all the info, you're more than kind

Bear in mind that the N52 at least (M54 is probably same) uses a wideband o2 sensor so the volts don’t swing around as Colb describes.
