Over 70 Driving Licence

I've just been sent my application form for my soon to be over 70 Driving Licence.
It looks like I'm going to loose some entitlements when I get to 70 - ie driving a mini bus and it looks to me like 3.5 tonnes vehicle and trailer ? That's only a Discovery with a Caravan - both unlikely but you never know ?

Are there any other old codgers like me out there who have gone past this milestone ?

I haven't got there yet, but that seems a bit mean. :x

When I first saw this topic I thought you had some great news about how to get a licence to drive at over 70mph!

I wish!
Both unlikely scenarios- if I want to retain the catogories I would have to have a medical and a letter from my GP - otherwise is a tick box and loose the groups.
Next they will say nothing over 45Bhp ! I'd have to remove four spark plugs

With a bit of luck I'll make 70 one day. Got a good few year to get there yet. :D Never know might still have the Zed. :driving:

I'm some years away from that milestone, but I wonder if they'll try to remove my entitlement for motorbikes.

Keep your full set of spark plugs - how would they know anyway?

B*stards - I'll have to try to remember to use the paper form (if it still exists in 12 years time). :x

Last week on the A5 we got pulled over by the police as we were heading up to Bethesda for the Zip Wire experiance.
They were checking driving liecense, vehicle condition and if the driver was fit to drive by the way of an eye sight test.I passed ok but it was a wake up call.

I was well thro the E form last night - then quit the process - out with the biro tomorrow .
Appreciate the heads up fellas!
I will post an update.

I don't know what they think happens at 70yrs old ?

When I'm 70 I don't want to be showing photos of my Zed and hearing the question why did you ever sell it? I want to still have it - in fact when I die I would like to be buried it in :)

I passed the magic milestone 2 months ago. Fairly painless in my case, no intention of driving minibuses or heavy vehicles.

Relatively painless experience for me, not having any special categories.
Recently went through the same process as 75 is approaching! so it seems the renewal is good for 5 years, whether that continues indefinitely I've no idea.
On reflection I'm thinking that after 75 there ought to be some form of testing or examination for eyesight, hearing and reflexes instead of ticking the boxes to say you are fit to drive.

You need to be really careful about the categories on your license, its actually sensible not to send back your old one and say you have lost it.

I have a friend who renewed his licence and they took off the motorcycle entitlement by mistake, (he only has a bike no car) even though he still had his original pass certificate from his bike test they still made him take the test again. he went through hell trying to get them to admit their mistake to no avail. :headbang:
