Options you wished you hadnt bothered with

I keep reading about people searching for cars with a particular spec or loads of options that were added to the car when new.
Is there any options that you have on your car that you feel is a waste of money?
For me I keep hearing about electric seats and feel that these must be the biggest waste of money on a car.
Once you have the seat in the position you want it it will never be used again unless you share the car with a partner and need the seat in a different position.

Not as yet .... the worse thing is when you "think" you have selected an option and the car arrives.... without autolights!!! and there is nothing you can do

The sport button is fairly pointless, though don't think this was an option. Also the interiors in general are a bit pap, but again not an option. Everything else though it seems has its place.

That said i have never bought a new car so never had the luxury of specifying options. And when buying used you just get as close to all the options as you can without too much compromise.

The interior LED option on my 911, eye watering expensive and I was a bit underwhelmed on what it actually provided.

I think mine is almost perfect.

Although, had it been an option, then I wouldn't have specified leather or electric seats as I prefer the grip/comfort you get from cloth/alcantara seats. This would also mean I wouldn't need the heat option neither. Don't like the cruise control, and could do without it.

Surprised you don't like the cruise? On a camera infested motorway I put it on 78 GPS and fall asleep until I have to get off ...

Never use it on the continent though as there at least I can drive to the conditions of the road rather than some ever lowered limit.

Is that the single LED that's on the USB charger that you posted about in another thread...

I don't think there's anything I don't use on the car/extras. I'm usually fairly careful about wallet emptying extras and will only get them if I know I'll get proper use rather than a giggly-schoolboy 'new toy' approach. Heated wheel, nope I have gloves thanks, cruise, nope, I have eyes and feet that can do that already etc. Parking sensors, nope I've always found that eyes hands and feet can do that too. Heated seats however, yes because I have two exploded spinal discs and when they play up, heated seats are a blessing. I could go on and on but you'd get bored, if you're not already ;)

Could well be as the sockets are in the footwell :D

I can admire my feet whilst driving as they are bathed in some LED mood lighting ...

Rarely have enough time at steady cruise on a motorway to use it, and when I do I don't like the way it brakes going down hill (wasting fuel) and then powers up the next hill (wasting fuel). I wish there was a method to make it use the down hill to 'speed' a little to take advantage of momentum to help it up the other side - like you would if driving with it off.

The only time I use it now is the same as you - i.e. going through 20 miles of 50mph SPECS cameras (set at a GPS indicated 55mph).

Ah, you took the, rather expensive, PCB* option....

I had the self parking thing option selected for the last 3 series, and yes, it parks itself. Its great to watch the wheel turning all on its own, but I have only used it twice in anger, all other times was to 'impress' folk with the way technology and cars is going. Waste of money really.

You have two exploded spinal discs and you drive a z4 - Your username suits you ;)

I've got cruise control because it was part of the comfort pack anyway.

I don't like it, I like my feet near the pedals in case of emergency so I may as well drive manually anyway. It's no great hardship :D

Me too, never use it, don't like it, stalk gets in the way. :x

Once you get over the feeling of not being in control, cruise becomes one of the best options you can have. However there is one downside, you soon notice how hard it is for other people to control a stable speed on the motorway

and Mr Wilks, I actually preferred the BMW version than either the Audi or Mercedes variant that I have or had previously

Each to their own , have spent long hours "cruising" on the continent in 3,s,5s & X3 & the cruise set up on the A6 is far better, imo the BMW one looks nice as it travels around the speedo but for functionality & usability  its a  from me
