Start looking for adverts for cars similar to yours so you have some ammunition ready. My nephew had an altercation with a Tesco home delivery van a couple of years ago and his insurer increased the offer considerably once he sent them some links.
Somehow they decided his car was a Cat S (Structural) when all it needed was a bonnet and a front wing, even though their "assessment" was based on a couple of photos from his phone! I told him to get them to make it Cat N (Non-structural) but he didn't pursue that as he wanted to get the settlement so he could start to get it repaired. It was a manual E46 325i Touring in Imola Red with full leather so given how hard it was to find in the first place he really wanted to keep it.
Not sure how they can assess your car from photos, other than from a valuation viewpoint. But I think you might get all sorts of electrical issues if you put another engine in your car - they don't swim too well.

I think the assessment is purely for a valuation. I said the engine is seized and they didn't query it at all which I found surprising. I was expecting them to want a garage to confirm at least.
I suppose as its a relatively low valued car that stalled in water and then won't start they assume its done for.

Sorry to hear about your Zed OP. I’m always super cautious with water, even when I’m out using our X5! I guess that’s been since I sold my old MX5 to a lady that flooded her previous car!
I’d agree with this if you’re thinking about getting another Zed OP! And if it’s the same colour, then even better! :lol: I’d be tempted to keep the wheels as well... becoming increasingly hard to find 107’s!

I thought I'd be excited to get something new - I've never kept a car as long as this Z which is testament to how much I liked it. But having had a quick nose around there really isn't much floating my boat for under 10k. And not that many Z4s up for sale at this time of year, unless you want a 2.5, which I don't.

You the bloke I met on the A48 just south of Blakeny on Wed night - Told me his Z4 stopped in the floods? ( I was in the X5 in the layby waiting)
Sorry about that - if it wasnt you then at least you know you were not alone! ( I see now you say it was 11pm (?) - I was there at about 7pm)
I would leave the plugs out, drain (and change) the oil and see if there is water in it. - sure its not your starter flooded?
Try and turn the engine over by either rocking it in 2nd or cranking it.
If it wont turn over then yes you probably hydraulic lock it and something is bent.
My 95 year old Dad in his Mondeo and 93 year old Mum made it through all of the floods between Over and Woolaston - on Wed night, biggest problem was drowned cars blocking the roads and 4x4s throwing up bow waves as they raced through the deepest floods.
I went out to meet them in case they needed help and it was mayhem - but slow and steady wins the race with water - unless you are in a Z4.
