Currently running 5W40 on my M54B30 zed, with around 260,000Km's on the clock. had a garage recommend me to switch to 10W40 at this mileage. Any opinions on this?

Been almst a year since ive owned this car. topped up 2L since i bought the car, which was roughly at 247,000 KM's. We are heading into the summer however, is this something that is not recommended for cold winters?

do let me know

Concur.
I moved to 10w40 from 5W30 at 100k miles.
Can't be anything but a benefit on a 100k+ mile and espeically a 200k+ km M54 engine.
The higher viscosity will help compensate the tolerance reductions at operating temps.

The W actually stands for winter not weight.
The viscosity of 40 will remain the same at operating temperature.
So no benefit going to 10-40

Don’t cloud the issue with facts

Unless cold starting in colder climates….which isn’t the implied issue.
