opinions appreciated (knob and boot)

I'm feeling indecisive and look to the aesthetic wisdom of fellow Zed-ophiles, a group no doubt avidly attentive to artful details.

As the subject suggests, this is about a potential knob/boot combo. My interior is dream red/black/dark poplar, and I think the center may need a touch of red to "bridge the gap" so to say...

Thinking of getting a ZHP knob from Andy at LeatherZ and having it customized with two-tone leather (dream red/black). Note that modifying the ZHP means losing the small aluminum ring at the base, which I rather like as it ties in to the few other aluminum details (steering wheel/door pulls/etc). I'm also considering getting a two-tone Shift Boot to compliment the knob.

Or would all this be too much (visually, of course, not cost wise)? :?

An alternate would be full dream red shift boot with unmodified ZHP

Lastly, this will likely make me want to replace the dark poplar with either Piano Black or Brushed Aluminum console trim, either of which may help make the black coupe seem even more sporting.

Sincere thanks for thoughts and opinions.

Cheers. :)

With Piano Black dash trim
Cheers. :)

Those would be my choices within those you are considering

I do agree that would be a smart-looking combo... it seems the larger challenge is sourcing Piano Black. I can find the part numbers for the various dash & console trim, but none show Piano Black as an option. Is this something that I'll need to go through BMW directly to obtain?

Unless anyone stateside is dying to swap Piano for Poplar.

Could be a Holiday Bonu$ "upgrade" in the making... and once I figure it all out (pricing and all), some Dark Poplar trim may appear in my "available to a good home" parts inventory.

Cheers.

I've just recently installed a piano black dash kit (aftermarket flat type), but would go for the OEM molded parts if I could find reasonable pricing...and if I had the guts to take on that whole center console removal!!! Seems like a nightmare job from the links I read.

Sorry for the "bump," but I have a question to those with Piano Black... Is it a solid field of high gloss black or can you see any depth of wood grain detail? I've never seen BMW's Piano Black in person... and before I plunk down the bucks, I was curious. Crown Auto has reasonable pricing, but it's still a lot for replacing something that's essentially not defective.

Also, does anyone have an idea of how much this might cost to have a dealer switch out? I've seen all the posts on removing the dash and console, but I am not sure I trust my klutzy self.

Thanks again. :)
