had a bit of an idiot moment on weekend....
had some free time so decided to "polish my car" so grabbed a bottle and applyed as normal..
applied liberally...left to dry and then buffed
or at least tried...didnt seem to come off like usual polish and then i had to go so i stopped and then it rained a little bit
then this morning realised i had applied t cut rather than polish
the car has spots on it from the rain which dried funny and the t cut dust is all over the car....it looks terrible
scratched which wernt so apparent are now obvious and got lil scratches in it
have i runied my paintwork :(
what do i do

Eeeek.. T Cut + Water is bad, makes a horrible mess.

I might be wrong, but I think if you get some decent polish on top of that it won't be anything like as bad ?

As I understand it T-cut is great for taking out a deep scratch, but will leave hundreds of smaller ones in its place. I am sure others with more experience will make better suggestions but it sound like you might need to claybar to correct the problem.

Ooops!

Have you got a foam lance? What you must do is get the particles off the bodywork. If you have a foam lance use it, and mix up some snow foam with a healthy dose of APC to give it some bite. If not, blast it with a PW. If not, go to the garage and use theirs as a last resort.

Wash it with a 2 bucket method.

You're probably still going to have bits of product in corners etc so a clay bar is the best option, and be liberal with the spray. Odds are you've given yourself a lovely set of marrings so either get someone with a DA / rotary polisher to hit it, or slap on two or three coats of Super Resin Polish. SRP is a massively underrated product and actually does a better job of filling and blending scratches than pretty much every hand applied scratch remover out there.

you need to blast as much off as you can with a pressure washer then you need to buff the paint with a fine cutting paste with an electric polisher (you need this as it gives a nice even pressure on the paint) to bring the shine back then you need to give it several coats of good wax, bmw;s own hardwax is superb. personally i wouldnt have t cut in the garage it does more harm than good.

Hey Woots, at least people can laugh at the scratches instead of your wheels :) Seriously, hope they come off. A good wash and claying should sort it.

ha yes, the wheels are the best part of the car now

seriously sooo annoyeeeddd....on the label its like "removes dirt and grime" doesnt say anythin about making a metallic car have a matt finish with a billion scratches in it :(
least it gives me somethin to do i suppose.

get it to a dealer for a full assessmemt/valet- my mate diod this to a car i sold him- the results left a car i had regularly polished for 3 years matt and flat!! dont rtry and save this ursef- 100-200 for afull valet is a safer bet than a respray!!

they are a rough guess of prices- but a lot cheeper than a re spary! florida for 200 quid- what u flying on a pigeon? lol

One of the number 1 rules for detailing is use minimal amounts. What T-cut was it?

I would clean the car up best i could then try a paint cleaner, Meguiress Step 1 Paint Cleaner good, Then i'd apply a coat of Autoglym Super Resin. Followed by a couple layers of wax to seal.

Maybe a full megs 3 step will cure the pitting.. did wonders to my last car which was neglected in the winter months.

lol no i wish i could fly on a pigeon, would be better...but i cant afford everything lol

tbh im just gonna try and do it myself as best as i can....ive got till sep to make the car look okay before i get rid of it....hmmm

im gonna pressure wash it off tomorrow...tempted to do it tonight but its obv dark...but it needs to be done
im such an idiot lol

Word of warning aswell, Do not attempt to machine polish the car if you dont know what your doing. If you get it wrong you can burn and blister the paint work.

Get it fixed up by a pro, spend the 200 quid and you'll get it back in spades when you sell the car. Besides, 200 quid is only a couple of days bar tab in FLA (or two one-day passes to Disney world).

Cheer up mate , it's only money, you've got lots of time to get more. :D

Aah just do it yourself.

Megs clay kit £25 then use a a silverline rotary polisher for about £35 (or hire one for a day at £15), a Lakeland white pad £8.95 and a bottle of megs #80 speedglaze for £14.95 - job done. Rotary polishers aren't the fearsome thing people seem to assume they are. You do have to be a complete nugget to mess paint up with them.

Be afraid, be very afraid.....I had an Audi A6 repainted (at the dealers cost) after some "nugget" went after it with a polisher in their shop. :D
