saw an incident this morning on the way to work this morning, which made me wonder what may have happened or you may have seen on your way to work ! here's mine.
it was abit slippery here and there this morning so just taking things easy, when i noticed a driver four cars ahead really taking things extra cautiously, like 20mph,fine with that, he or she could have been elderly. anyway , road was actually fine and i like the three in front were getting a bit frustrated, no one overtook for a mile or so then as the road went uphill and was clear. the car behind the slow car overtook, then the second, the third sort of couldnt decide then went for it, i was thinking ooh its getting a bit tight now as road is turning and its getting a bit blinder, now it is blind and the car didnt have the power to make the pass quickly and safely, its dfinately blind by now and just as i am thinking something could come round there,... it did,... A Police Traffic Car ! no where to go he had to brake really hard and pull off the road to give the other car room to complete the overtake. the original slow driver and I had now passed the stopped police car, looked in my mirror to see police car doing a bit of a red mist three point turn, seconds later he flies past us with blues and twos to catch the offending driver just turning right at a t junction. she pulled in with traffic cop behind her, he gets out and animatedly invites her into his car to,I presume be shown the video, givien a bollocking and probably a ticket. that is all right and fine and was justly deserved, but it did cross my mind that in his haste to catch and apprehend her he committed the exact offence that she did i.e. overtaking on an almost blind corner on the wrong side of the road,although his was actually worse because he was also speeding, and there was also a side road joining the road and also was within 50yds of the t junction where someone aproaching from the other direction would have turned left to be confronted with a speeding car on his side of the road. he should have imo stopped her further up the road a minute later which would have avoided the starsky and hutch type chase which i thought a bit unnecesary. I wonder if they review their own videos as part of ongoing training to see if reasonable response was optimised. :|
