Old Push Bike, Is it worth anything?

One of my colleagues (in his 70's) has this cluttering up space in his garage. He was going to give it away, but I wondered if it might be worth something and should try via ebay or similar.

Its a Peugeot Perthus, and wouldn't have been cheap when he bought it. Could do with a clean up which I'm happy to do if it's worth the effort.

Thoughts?

There's a massive market in retro bikes. I'd do some research as you will be suprised how much they go for. There are some websites dedicated to retro cycles- retrobike.co.uk being just one of them.
Certainly don't give it away.

I have the same one! They are converted over to fixies mainly.

Love mine it was my dads and was pretty good back in the day. Had a duplicate one I sold a few years ago with new chain and gearing for a little less than above

Yep, it'll def fetch a few bob on fleabay!
Not too shabby condition-wise and it has the well-respected Shimano 600 groupset.
I'd put that around 500 quid tops. Even more if sold over here in Holland. Take a look at marktplaats.nl

There used to be frames made by Reynolds that quite a few bike manufacturers used, the daddy was the 531 double butted frame, I'd have thought if it's got one of those frames it'll be worth a bit.

Well it had the right bits on it. 600 ex was the hight teck of the 80s if a little heavy next to, Campagknology. Personaly I wouldn't pay anything for a Peugeot badge on a push bike. If it was a Holdsworth, Harry quin or something similar then worth a few hundred quid. Not sure about that one though. Mavic was the norm back then. Fiamme Ergal 28 spoke was the top end. You never know though worth a few days on fleebay :wink:

Reynolds never built bike frames. 531 steel alloy double butted tubing alloy was developed for aircraft use and was adopted by bike frame builders as it was so much lighter than plain steel tubing. It has been superseded by later steel alloys and now by titanium and particularly carbon fibre. Bikes like this Peugot don't have much value even hand built classics from that era go for very little. I used to be an active club and racing cyclist and often hear outlandish values put on old bikes. I have a Raleigh Panasonic Team frame from that era equipped with Campagnolo Racing T and I'd be delighted to get £400 for it.Make me an offer.

We had bikes with Reynolds 531 double butted tubing when I used to belong to a club 35yrs ago, I don't know if Reynolds built them or not, it was so long ago, but they 100% put their name on them.

531 was about as good as steel tubing got. Rernolds brought out 753 after 531, but it was extortionate and IMHO not as good. I nearly bought a 753 frame,but after much debate bought an entire Honda 250 Super dream, brand new instead. Peugeot on the other hand, well they just ain't known for making good push bikes and Shimano 600ex though it was very good in it's day. (I still have some spares, brand new boxed in the garage), was not top of the range, like the campag bits I used to scrimp and save for.

Some one will probably pay a few quid for it though, looks nice.
