currently contemplating whether i should make the Z4MR/ Alpina Roadster swap from my 3.0 SE

what is the right money for a really good Z4MR at the moment - prices seem all over the place on pistonheads and Exchange and Mart.

from 11k right up to 16k.

Ive got some really good info on Alpina prices from the Alpina boys but i'm a bit lost on MR prices..

does 12.5k private 14k trade sound about right for an 06 car ?

Exchange and Mart? What about Loot? :poke:

Alpina's are unique...just unsure about the wheels. What are the pros of the Alpina against a regular one?

I don't think you're a million miles away, I'd say between 13-15K dependant on the car, and the buyer ofcourse, some trade guys have cars at private Money IMO , but they need to turn cars around, they obviously will be buying them in much cheaper.

I paid £14k for mine in August, 2 owners 40k miles 2006 model from a garage, but as you say you can get them way cheaper than this :(

It all depends on condition & mileage & we are currently out of top down motoring so not much interest in them at the moment, good luck with your search

There is always a reason for a cheap(er) one.

Usually because it either has scratches / bad seats, flimper spec, many owners etc.

The real good ones always make good money - casing point KevShores one.

It seems to be the mileage that stops M's selling. I've seen high mile cars not selling for months even though the condition is good. People think they will blow up after 60k or something! Most just want a short term ownership and buy low miles and sell low miles. I must admit that's exactly what I did, but then that's because I know my circumstances mean I won't be in a two seater this time next year.
The main cosmetic problems I saw were the plastics on the steering wheel and round the gear lever. Other than that just curbed alloys and paint swirls and scuffs to the front bumper fangs. None were in a really bad state just not mint overall.
I think if you went to see a 60k car private sale you would be almost his only punter, offer them a real low price and you would really give him something to think about. Then bargain M ownership! :D

Strange that M3s can shift easily at 100k, but new owners are put off buying an ///M zed at 60k :?

That's a great point, at least we know the engine will do high miles if you wanted to. :)

Perhaps M3s are bought to be driven more - whereas Z4Ms are desired more as weekend fun / 3rd or 4th cars ?

This is spot on, as some people do use the zed for high days & holidays it must put people off with a high mileage thinking its an abused daily.

Mines just an abused weekend car!! :driving:

Anything between $50k to $65k here...!

Anything in the UK at ANY price is a bargain ;-)

:o Bargain indeed!! (which they are anyway, so much car even for what we consider top money!) :driving:

Buy mine ;)
Seriously though. Now seems to be such a good time to buy them.
I guess that makes sense with winter approaching rapidly.
Some real bargains out there (did I mention mine?)

So found one I like ... Service history looks good with one small issue

It went from 08 to 11 for brake fluid, it had its inspection 1 done in 09 when the brake fluid was not done ( only 1 year from 08 so no need) but it was not changed until the oil change in 2011.

The rest of the book checks out with the running in service done all at the same BMW dealers- should I be worried about the above issue?

I wouldn't worry about a brake fluid change, I suppose it's because brake fluid can break down iirc so wouldn't hurt the car.

Curious to know if the brake fluid of an unused car deteriorates at the same rate as one that is at boiling point every week.

I think it can absorb moisture and that's the reason it deteriorates, could be wrong though :)

Yes. moisture is indeed the issue, but does it absorb it at low temperatures or only at higher ones.
