I was unaware about the requirement to warm the engine before checking the oil until today - hence this post.
A couple of days ago, my (cold) engine was on or around the minimum mark on the dipstick. I then proceeded to add around 1/2 a litre of oil, which brought the level up to the maximum mark (still in the cold engine).
Now having just discovered that perhaps the reason for the original low reading is the car's dry sump, I've got slightly panicked that I've overfilled the engine, albeit slightly.
I dont have the car with me at the moment to get a warm reading, but will check later.
Still, sitting here at work and worried I've overfilled.. Obviously I know its potentially a big problem if overfilling by a significant amount, but in my case, its perhaps 1/2 a litre or so.
Should I be worrying, or should I just let it (hopefully) burn off over time?
