Oil Service from the Stealers

Morning all!

The coupe is due an oil service in 3000 miles so got some quotes from some local stealers. Best price was £198.87 :o After getting back up off the floor I enquired about providing my own oil to which the service girl replied yeh no problem we would just charge you for the labour and filter.... £81.35 :o :o So BMW want to charge you £117.52 for 6 liters of oil?!!!!! Didn't realize you filled the engine with petrol as well as the tank

So I have 3 choices....

1. Get the stealer to do it and source my own oil (looking at about £40 from Opie Oils).
2. Get a friend of a friend who owns a German specialist garage in Carlise to do it (he recently
did a brake fluid change for me and trust his work)... not sure on price yet though but
guessing about £80 cash all in
3. DIY - easy job changed oil and filters on loads of cars cost about £50 all in

Trouble is I due to impending fatherhood :) I will probably have to sell the car in the next 6 months or so  , so do you think its worth going with the stealer for the stamp in the book? I guess the car doesn't have FBMWSH already as I didn't get the brake fluid change done @ BMW?

Personally, I'm perfectly happy with non_BMW servicing so long as BMW parts (or approved consumables) are used by an indy specialist.

Not quite so happy with 'self-servicing' just because it's nice to have stamps in the book.

But it's all personal - at the end of the day you are possibly reducing the number of potential buyers by a few% but, over the lifetime of the car you may save more than the amount you (possibly) have to adjust the price by - clearly less of a possibility if you are selling soon.

So, go for indy servicing with approved parts/consumables and keep the car! Simples!

You'll want something to put a smile on your face in the morning when you've had 2 hours broken sleep...hence my 8 year old 100,000+ mile diesel Passat is enitrely tolerable 'cos every few days I get to use the Zed instead!

If you are just about to sell it, the £40 difference between BMW doing it and your mate doing it (£81+£40 v's £80) it's a no brainer. The last stamp in the book will be a BMW stamp, which will give people a warm fuzzy feeling.

It's not worth the extra outright if you were keeping it, but people like to see BMW stamps, and thats going to be more useful if you are selling soon. For £40 I wouldn't even think about it

Thanks for the input guys much appreciated

Think I am going to go with the stealer to get the BMW stamp... your right for the sake of £40 its a no brainer!

Trying my HARDEST to work out how I can keep it... if anyone needs a kidney in the next 6 months or so drop me a PM! :)

I always self supply the oil and give them a container for the old stuff as they want to charge you a tenner for environmental charge as well.

They did not return the container last time (too much hassle I guess), but the first time they still charged me that tenner as I was not aware at the time.
