Hi, i have been having some trouble with the oil light on my dashboard lately. The dipstick reads the oil at a perfect level however the oil light comes on on my car when i turn the ignition off sometimes and the odd time it comes on while i am driving... do i need to get a new oil sensor or could something else be wrong... anyone ever experienced this before, thanks in advance

Hi guys

I had my oil warning light (amber) come on after about 3 mins of driving and sometimes it came on just as I turned the engine off. Sometimes it actually came on when kicking down... oil level was always perfect.

Anyway, I replaced the oil switch on advice from the garage that sold me the car, but it didn't fix the problem.

I took it to my local indie who asked if I had changed the oil while leaving the radio on, as this apparently damages the oil level sensor. I hadn't done it but the garage selling the car did say they had changed the oil. The local indie replaced the oil level sensor and the problem has gone.

It cost about £130 incl. fitting from memory.

Good luck!
