Oil needed as per Dip Stick reading but no warning light

Hi all

I did a near straight 1000 miles journey yesterday so thought it be best to check the oil this morning. On warming up the engine then taking a reading the oil was low and needed just under a litre until it was on the correct mark on the dip stick

Quite odd that the warning light hadn't lite up, even though it had on the reverse journey over a week ago.

Anyone had this where the dip stick reading is low but the warning light hasn't come on?

Yes I first thought that, but after pouring a near litre I think the sensor may have packed up in the past week

isn't the sensor and warning light the last ditch attempt to get you to put oil in???

I wouldn't expect just a litre to trigger the sensor.... obviously is could be wrong...

As above, or, I had the same issue, but my sensor had died. The BMW software can pick up it's not working properly.

It's a doddle to change but you do need to drop the oil.

I had to top up about the same as you, when I checked the dip stick after a couple of long journeys a few weeks ago... No oil light though..
