oil light comes on when I turn engine off

is this normal or what?
only comes on when I turn the engine off... when I turn the ignition on, it comes on amongst others but when i start the car it goes, only comes back when I turn engine off and it beeps i think

As above. Means your oil is low.

Had the same problem on my e46 a few years ago ,it was a faulty oil sensor ,a commom problem with BMW,s replaced sensor problem fixed .do a oil change at the same time! Hope this is the problem .

Have you checked the oil ?

If it's low add some in, if not may be a faulty sensor......

Me too on the E46. However, in the zed it usually means I need oil

Sensor about £30 off eBay, changed the oil and sensor at the weekend on an e46. 30mins.

As the others above say, if it's the yellow oil light, check the oil, almost certainly needs a litre or so of oil. My old 3.0i used to do this fairly regularly (every 2000 miles or so).

gonna go halfords later, whats the best oil to get from there?

Halfords currently doing 20% off the best oil for the e85. Castrol edge 5/w30. £37.59. Even cheaper in Costco I believe. Like others, mine seems to go through a top up every thousand miles or so. Spoke to my mechanic during its oil service yesterday and he wasn't surprised or unduly worried.
