Hi all,

I seem to have developed a problem, a couple of weeks a go I got the oil light come on saying i needed to ass 1lt of oil and the engine management light come on at the same time.

I went to the garage who said the oil level sensor was throwing a fault code.

So this has been changed and new oil put in.

It was fine for a couple of days, now the oil sensor is again causing issues.

Once I let the engine warm up, press the oil check button and it shows full and then says ok. 5 minutes later i will check it again and although it says 'ok' it shows a different level. if i try and test it a 3rd time is says Error..

It then wont work again until the car has been stood for a while.

Anyone any ideas?

Criteria for ECU to display correct oil level is:

Coolant temp >60'C
Engine rpm > 1,500rpm
Yaw and pitch must be minimal (i.e. flat road, not going around bend etc)
Minimum refresh time is 20 mins (prob why you get an error if you try again sooner)

All a bit fickle. Dipstick much easier!

Thanks so much for the reply!

20 minutes between tests?

That will explain why I am getting the error message after trying multiple times.

You shouldn’t get an error warning just for checking the level, it must be 20mins after adding oil before the sensor reacts to the new level

I've had error come up before with repeated tests close together. Other times I haven't. Go figure.

I check mine a lot and never seen an error. I don’t see why it would show an error even if 20 minutes hasn’t elapsed :?
