Oil leak

So my car being my car..... After fixing all the other problems and getting the current batch of mods done. Has given me a little unwanted surprise.
I was finally fixing my exhaust (it has worked perfectly sounds great and loud) But when it was on the ramps i noticed a patch of oil on the ground. after closer inspection there is a trail down the passengers side halfway along the underside of the car. I at first thought as it was around the boot of the track rod end witch i have just changed. That it was maybe oil out of the pinion part of the steering rack. But it actually seems to be coming from a oil line that runs from the gear box to a expansion tank and heat exchanger for the gear box. I found the parts on real oem. Has anyone else had a similar problem? I have only had a quick look and i am not sure if its the tank or the line that are leaking. I suspect its the joint be twine them. Any advice or similar stories and how it was fixed greatly appreciated. I am supposed to be doing a track day Monday in it and want it to have a clean bill of health before i go.

I have also had what looks like a coolant level warning light come on. I haven't checked the level yet i didn't have time. But i have noticed water dripping at times i guess its probably all related :thumbsdown:

Any help and advice would make a monkey happy :thumbsup:
 
Mmm, curious MM. Coolant issue too seems weird too. You got any pictures of the area in question?
 
Yeah it is weird they might not be connected?!? No pictures and no time this evening I am afraid. Hopefully I can do some google research and get it fixed over the weekend.
 
Is it oily coolant? I've seen many a slow leak that looks like oil, but isn't - engine bays can be grimey places...
 
I can't seem to imbed the diagram from real oem :headbang: the leak is coming from around the explanation tank. Just trying to figure out why the gearbox oil lines go to the expansion tank. And the on to the heat exchanger???
 
Might not have been anything. Had all the covers off tonight and I can't see any problems. The oil might have just been as said above oily water (fingers crossed) I might have the well known problem (with the e46) of a leaky expansion tank. I will just carry water just in case and keep an eye on it.
 
O don't I feel like I have a split personality at the moment!!! One minute I keep this one the next I am looking Z4MCs
