Apologies but hijacking the forum for just a minute. My Disco4 needs a top up of oil and the oil recommended via the code isn't available anywhere aprt from dealers (code WSS-M2C934-B). They do say that if you can't get it you can use anything coded 5W-30 ACEA-C2.
My question is are all oils with that code the same quality as they have a wide range of price diference. I get the difference between cheap 'synthetics' and real synthetics but if it has the approved code does that make it OK regardless of brand, etc.

ACEA-C2 has a minimum set of standards, so some that you see will meet it other exceeed it. Price is no determinent of quality.

If it meets the 5w-30 and ACEA-C2 then any will do if that's the spec the dealer advises.

Top up is also less criical than a full change.

You can likley use you Z4's Castrol edge 5w 30 as iirc that meets the same standard too
 
If you go with Castrol then Halfords have an offer on at the moment: By 4L bottle and get a 1L bottle free. works out @ £9/L for Castrol Edge 5W30 or £8/L for 0W40.
