How easy is it to get to the sump plug

ive bought oil and a filter seing as gfs has a 55%off sale but I don't have a sucker thing and last time I saw under the car it seemed like there was just a huge plazzi undertray
 
Very easy , beyond the main under tray you'll see a small flap fastened by a half turn posi screw. Undo flap drops down and there it is. :thumbsup:
 
I don't like the idea of the sucker thing. I am a traditionalist and much prefer to get the oil hot then whip the plug out and have any debris in suspension whooshed out with the old oil!

As above
Flap in middle just around steering rack
Mines a pop out job
Then a hex
I jack mine up loosen plug and slowly put a shallow plastic basin under
Open it and then simply drop car to allow it level
Allow to drain
Stick 1/2 litre through it
Jack up new washer clean it all and tighten then fill:)
Ps I always put new filter in then pour some oil around it
To help stop dry start up

When I used to do my own services. I used to spin the engine over without the plugs in situ until oil pressure showed. I'm not sure how easy that would be now nor how safe for the electronics ?

One thing for certain, I bet the dealers don't bother or indeed care about dry starts without load!

Now a days not sure buddy
But they def won't care about a dry start for sure

It's a very simple thing to do just pour oil round the filter haha
 
Way back then I knew some fellas who were mechanics (as they were called in the late 60 / 70's) these guys boasted of bonus increasing stunts - like cracking the diff plug then a squirt of oil from an oil can to look Ike it had been filled or even changed.
Very doubtful if they bothered about dry starts either!

There was a time when you cut up old tights into small bits and feed through the rocker. Used to silence worn bearing for a 1000 miles or so.

Well I know a certain jaguar specialist in berkhamstead that buys in cheap oil and pays them to rebadge as premium !
 
That's why on my Z I do all my own oil and filter changes, I know exactly what's being used.
5 changes in 4 years regardless of mileage :thumbsup:
