Oil Change - Quick Question

Hey Z'ers,

In an attempt to stop the tapping noise on cold startup I'm replacing my oil with a thicker Millers oil as recommended by a fellow forum member.

The question I have is, if I'm replacing all the oil do I need to reset the oil service milage and should I be getting my service book stamped?

Cheers!

Def reset oil service indicator, if only to keep track.
Count this as interim oilchange to keep on track w book.
Curious to know background music n knocking noise and why u think thicker oil would cure it?

I wouldn't reset the oil service indicator.

Treat it as a "between service oil change" and continue to get it serviced at the same intervals you were already following.

Thanks! I like the idea of seeing it as giving the Z a treat!

Its not necessarily thicker oil that might cure it Dan its more the brand + specification of oil that could be beneficial on cold starts .
It certainly won't do any harm on your car with it being relatively low miles (sub 30k?? ) & most likely under use / short journeys have played a part
The Millers CFS or Nano whether 5w 30 or 5w 40 should help though especially on cold starts , the difference in the 2 only shows when engine at full temp ( the 40 grade staying thicker as temps get hotter )

Its a tapping noise from the engine on cold start up, the tapping gets faster the more gas you give it. It goes after about 3-4 miles. I only do short runs in the car so after reading LOADS on this forum and speaking to a couple of people they said its the HVA's and a common thing with Z'ds that do not get out on long runs very often. Two people on this forum have suggested trying a thicker oil so it doesn't release from the HVAs overnight. Gonna give it a go, plus its a chance to make sure some decent oil is going in!

As Steve says don't reset your service indicator as it will bugger up the mileage due till inspection.
Get it stamped if you like, I just keep receipts for oil used on my additional oil services as I do those myself.

Thanks for the input Andy - I've just taken delivery of the oil you recommended so going to get it swapped out this week, then take it for a nice long cruise (any excuse to go for a drive). :driving:

Hi, how long are the runs the car gets? Short journeys and big engines aren't a good combination, I would change the oil a lot more regularly if I was only doing short journeys & a quality oil will help as well
