Hi
Just had my first MOT and Oil service and thought i'd share my experience.
I can't believe I've had the car 18 months already. During this time I have done approx 17K miles, with total mileage now standing at 32K.
I took the car into Cotswold Hereford with a long list of niggles that have been annoying me for a while but I was too busy to get them fixed individually.
> Wind Noise from driver's window at 60-70mph(I tried the window reset routine but this didn't solve the problem)
> Passenger side rubber dash/door trim needed replacing (tried sliding a credit card underneath to overlap the trim but it wouldn't budge)
> Intermittent alarm fault (guessed correctly that it was the bonnet switch but wd40 didn't do the trick)
> Passenger front fog light misted up (faulty seal)
> Check rear springs (they were OK!)
AND
108 corrosion on 3 wheels. (appeared out of nowhere over the last 6 months but didn't want to get them sorted until nearer the end of the warranty)
The dealer had already warned me that they would need to inspect the fog lights and 108's before agreeing to the work.
I dropped the car off this morning and by 4.00pm I received a call saying that all of the work would be accepted as warranty BUT not the 108's as these would need to be assessed by the BMW inspector.
I told them that I would discuss this with them when I came to collect the car.
By the time I arrived, their stance had softened a little and they offered to replace 2 out of the 3 affected wheels.
After a brief chat with their service manager, mentioning this forum and the known problem of 108 corrosion, they agreed to replace all 3!
I didn't even need to show him the reams of print outs that I had prepared about this topic that I had brought with me in anticipation of a problem
So I want to say a big thank you to the staff of BMW Cotswold Hereford and most of all a Great Big Thank You to all of the contributors to this forum, who's combined knowledge and eagerness to share their ownership experiences prepared me so well for today's trip to the dealers.
This forum saved me hundreds when purchasing the car, has brought me enjoyment and new friends over the last 18 months, and has saved me money and hassle today.
I'm off now to try to find some decent extended warranty cover and if I have any money left over then I just might make a donation to the running costs of this excellent forum whilst I'm still in a good mood.
