i prefer a tomtom to a built in sat nav, when a built in sat nav is out of date its far too expensive to upgrade, the other disadvatgae with a built in sat nav is it can't be used in your other cars

advantage for the built in sat nav is it can't be stolen
 
Strange that most think its not important, but for those who do, resale value is the thing that make nav important.

Re-sale value never even crossed my mind tbh. The whole car is a toy, a gift to myself after lusting for years (despite having to use it every day) - so, having the colour and spec I wanted was more important than what I might sell it for.

As I can't afford more spare cars, and it isn't band new, I'll drive it as much as I like till I want or can afford a different one. It'll have been looked after as best I can manage and will hopefully get a good price - I am not sure nav will increase the value much, but it is nice to know it will increase desirability therefore it should sell faster. Especially if I 'invest' £100 in the most up to date maps I can run in the system before I sell her.
 
it was sort of on the list when i was looking..the trouble is, when a car is getting older, other things start to take priority as a second hand proposition.

i know you can hold out and the right car would come up eventually, but if everyone's after the nav option, you can end up paying £500 extra for not a lot...
 
Its a desirable item, but not a mandate (i would probably be prepared to pay £200 more for that option in a second hand car that is almost 9 years old). A clean car with reasonably low mileage for my number 1 priority.

The factory sat nav would be convenient....no fiddling with chargers and cradles.
