Oem pop up screen replacement?

I know changing the pop up nav screen to a modern touchscreen android unit is a bit of a minefield but was wondering if just the actual screen itself could be changed. I think I'd be alot happier with it if it was a glass screen with crisper resolution rather than the horrible washed out look it has now even if what is was showing was still outdated by todays standards.
I'm by no means an expert on things like this but screens are pretty cheap as a stand alone part by what I've seen...
Just a random thought.....feel free to shoot it down in flames and point out my electronic ignorance with such matters 🙂

I don’t have a screen at all, but I know what you mean, and have had a similar thought.

With modern tech (that system was designed pre 2009!)
It would probably be possible to integrate all of the processing into an oem style screen unit with a much better screen.

If you had a broken one, you could try to fit some sort of tablet device.

Your main issues will be, finding a screen with the same, or very similar dimensions.

Then, if you wanted just a modern screen, the display inputs would need to be matched with the display outputs of the cic.

This would require some custom made adaptor, which would need 3D printing, and the electrical circuit which feeds output A to input A etc would need to be made. It is a pretty intensive job!

It is no doubt possible, but I would say the project would be no mean feat. I would say the costs would also be prohibitive, as opposed to putting that cash into a new Z4.

That said, if enough people were interested, you may find the project would be more economical.

Sounds like a lot of work... from what I've heard if you have nav it complicates things greatly. Think for non nav cars its pretty easy to find units but I couldn't comment on their quality and you have to be pretty brave to cut a whopping great big hole in your pride and joys dashboard too.Screenshot_20200712-154905_AliExpress.jpg
