OEM Headunit - Mp3 & Aux

OK I'm probably missing something really stupid but... my stereo won't play mp3s, and it won't work with aux input. It's the black one ('07 Z4), and there's a little 3.5mm aux port facing down as mentioned in the manual.

I burned a load of mp3s to a CD, but the unit refuses to play anything other than the radio :( Also tried hooking up my mobile to the aux, but I just get no sound from the aux input. Any ideas?

To get aux do you need to select CD changer from the source?

You could be using the wrong settings to burn the MP3 CD, what software and OS are you using?

What format are the music files? MP3 and WMA files will play with no issue. You may have issues if the tracks have been as downloaded in any other format.

Cheers

you need to select Aux on the mode setting. when you cycle through, Radio, CD, ... does Aux come up?

If it doesnt then the cable is faulty or not plugged into the head

MP3's are fine in mine too

Sorry about the MP3 CD - user error. Turns out it can't read ordinary data CDs, you have to create an audio CD / mp3 CD - I used iTunes which seemed to work well. Advantage of this is you can set the order the mp3s play in which is pretty cool.

I selected 'Aux' on the headunit, but it doesn't work :( I've checked the cable is fine, so it could be a dodgy connection to the headunit from the aux input. I just noticed some residue on the steering column where a mic probably was - maybe the previous owner rerouted the aux port? When it's not raining I'll start some investigating!

Thanks for your replies, really helpful!

OK with the aux is it something simple like your phone volume is turned down?

Afraid not :( I had the volume on my mobile jacked up to max, I hooked it up to the PC to test everything was fine. Then while still playing I took it to the Zed, and got nothing. Set the volume on the head unit to max, and aux input level to 5 (highest).
