The two aerials switch automatically depending on which has the better signal on FM or will run both at once so it depends on the strength of signal as to whether the boot aerial is needed at all. Thinking this through means you may as well remove the boot aerial altogether as fit a stubby, if the system switches to the boot aerial looking for better FM signal than can be provide by the biggie in the bumper the stubby probably isn't going to do the job.
