OE Manufacturer of Camshaft sensors

After the last track day I was getting some Camshaft sensor errors.

New sensors are £180 each from BMW (and I need two). Hack and C3BMW are both suggesting to use Meyle at £24 each. I like the price difference and Meyle can be a good brand but have been stung by cheap sensors in the past.

Anyone know who the actual original manufacturer was?

Thanks

VNE by the sounds of it. Just go OEM, not worth the risk off hassle from cheap sensors?

I tend to agree with RedUn. With my experience of PDC, cam and crank sensors on my E39, genuine was fit and forget, pattern was tons of grief when they fail after a few weeks.
However if it is an easy job to replace, then what have you got to lose by trying the Meyle ( answer a few minutes and £24)

OEM every time - it isn’t worth the worry and upset when the aftermarket ones fail - no doubt at the most inopportune time!
I know it’s a lot and my eyes are watering just reading it but it’s definately worth the peace of mind.

what's he actual code? Is it possible that the cam timing is actually out and the sensors are fine?

Also worth taking them out and giving them a good clean, and the hole they go into, unless you know they have actually failed.

I got a whole host of codes including;

- 2CFB Throttle Valve
- 2F44 EWS preventing Manipulation
- 2A87 Exhaust VANOS
- 2AA3 - Exhaust camshaft space loss
- 2AA1 - Exhaust camshaft sensor signal
- 2A9B - Exhaust camshaft sensor signal

It started being down on power and then eventually threw the engine warning light, but I didn't have my code reader with me to clear them down while I was there.

When I got the car home, I cleared the codes down and haven't been able to repeat any of them since, however the car obviously got hot on the track day. Might have been too much oil pressure, might have been too much heat. Maybe the VANOS is on its way out. Swapping out the exhaust camshaft sensor seemed to be the easiest first move before the next track day. (Track days are a bit to expensive to hope it doesn't do it again next time).

I was going to replace both sensors, but at £180 a throw, might just do the exhaust sensor!

VEMO tend to offer the OE sensors with the BMW brand scrubbed off, AUTODOC stock them. I'd avoid Meyle for most parts, not sure why Hack offer them tbh.
