OBDII Scanner / Software

I am considering buying a scanner / software to diagnose a starting issue I have with my Z4 Coupe.

From a scanner point of view I am considering the following: -

Autel MD802 or a Duonix BS 100

The key consideration from my side is to find a tool which will allow / support deep problem solving analysis.

Any thoughts or experience with software / scanners would be gratefully appreciated

:headbang:

if you have android phone, i recommend torque app , you will need obd bluetooth adapter aswell (~£12), works well on z4 ,allows to scan /clear fault codes etc...

Why don't you just get inpa?

All you need is the lead from ebay

If you want inpa and have drop box I will share it with you

Will that reset the airbag light and if so, what else is needed? the lead cable?

Excellent, once you have set up your drop box account PM me your email address and i will share the folder with you, the folder is just over 2.5 GB but it has all the instal videos and instructions in there,

Do exactly as the videos show and the installation will be fine

But INPA will do every thing you want it to in terms of fault code scanning/clearing and diagnostics if you want to program things on the car you will need NCS but i think that is a bit harder to use and you can screw more things up if you clumping arround with it

Happy to Help

Sam

It should do,

You will need a laptop top running XP, a lead ... this one if you have a serial port: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-SCANNER-Ediabas-obd2-INPA-4-compatible-Interface-/120741086412?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item1c1cbac4cc

If you want it too, PM me your email address and get a drop box account and i will share the folder with you too,

Anybody else want it while im at it???

AH HA, here you go:

Here is how to do it

Thanks sam1832! I also had this lead saved in my ebay watch list:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/121035001296?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

I guess either one will do...?

I brought:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Diagnostic-Software-Cable-lead-Ediabas-Inpa-DIS-SSS-OBD-lead-/200863433690?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item2ec464c3da

A few days ago, came quickly and although it is a drawn out process to setup it worked quite well. Also comes with all the software on dvd's. I have been able to reset the steering angle sensor using DIS which came as part of this.

Don't waste your time with the software on eBay with a 55 page installation process, go to http://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=75 and get it from BMW Technic one click install and support with 'how to' guides

Thanks for the link nfarmer, I did finally order my cable/software from that bmtechnic store. Looks like their set-up was designed for an easy install

NCS Expert, INPA, DIS, TIS, GT1, Progman, the full suite and I do recommend

Do you have the files for ncs, dis, tis, to share via dropbox?

Sorry no, they are available on any number of dodgy sites out there if you want to risk your computer being infected with all sorts of nasty things. I was happy to buy the correct OBC lead from BMW Technics so that I had a 'one click' install and support from someone who knew what he was doing. You will have to buy a lead anyway so why not get one which will work.

In the first instance I sought a set of software and a lead from eBay which I finally got working (took hours and hours) but the supplier couldn't (or wouldn't) help me use the software. So I decided to go with BMW Technic and get the support to be able to use the software.

Let's face it, regardless of where you buy from you're buying dodgy software if you're getting bundled software worth thousands with a £25 cable...

Considering the substantial member activity and support offered on that forum, I have to disagree with you on that one. If it were cheap, trouble prone stuff they were selling, that forum simply wouldn't have been online very long... :)

Then I'll edit my post to be clearer

Let's face it, regardless of where you buy from you're buying pirate software if you're getting bundled software worth thousands with a £25 cable...

Of course, if you think I'm wrong, call VMware and ask for support quoting the serial number provided.

Stuart, I would think that I can get all the support I need (for simple to moderate troubleshooting, not the expert level programming stuff) by posting or searching for answers on that forum.

At the moment, I need to reset my airbag light, so if that's the only thing I ever use this kit for, it will still be much cheaper than my other options. :)
