OBC fuel distance estimator wonky

Hi all, new owner of used 23i. All is great, except the fuel distance estimator is very tempermental. Half a tank estimated to get 130 miles which is not much at all, but it goes down unproportionally quickly. As in as soon as I put my foot down I will lose at least 1 mile. A 2 mile drive will cost me 5-10 miles on the OBC at least.

I have reset everything after I got the car, reset adaptations and upgraded the software but still seeing the same thing.

It all depends how and where you drive the car, if you were to join a motorway right after filling up you would see the mileage going up

If you put your foot down you will quickly halve the economy, the obc detects this & lets you know

As stated, it varies so much on driving style, it’s at best an estimate on driving patterns since it was last reset.

I just go by when it drops to about a third I fill it up as it’ll need fuel soon no matter what the OBC says

The lowest I have ever got on the fuel estimate was 7 miles I was on along journey and was struggling to find a petrol station :x

It does go to zero or if I remember its ---

I think I average about 25 mpg. I did do a a run down to Essex and got about 37 by my rough calculations. I did have "her indoors" with me so no sport mode and no flooring it.

i average 29 in a 23i, heavy right foot

You’ll need to try harder, that’s a ridiculously HIGH mpg :poke:
That dude up there is getting 34^^^ :D I get 24 on a fun run but there's my commute thats bringing the average back up and there's been more commuting in it than fun lately.. lockdown n s**t y'know :poke:

Was it on a transporter? that’s the only way I’d see that. 23i was about 21 ish and 35iS was 12.7 on last proper fun run

Mine is only a fun car but I did manage 26.4 average on last weekends run to John O’Groats 😇

My 2.0 tells me that I'm getting 39 mpg average. It certainly didn't seem like that, so I've recorded the litres/miles used over a couple of tankfuls.

It's actually getting 31 mpg.

So if the dashboard mpg figure is so dreadfully inaccurate, then the "range" figure will be just as inaccurate.

I'm getting around 25 in mixed driving and I was concerned but good to know you all are on similar stats! On one particular drive averaged at less than 10 and I was shocked!

The green trim is causing extra drag. You need to get shot of it. :poke:

For an object lesson in wonky OBC - look at MG's record - my ZT used to often say that I had a range of 3000+ miles with under half a tank - this would drop back at the rate of a mile per metre - it wasn't uncommon to have a negative range either.

I learnt to just ignore the bloody thing
