NW Hose Pipe Ban

I'm surprised this hasn't been brought up yet!

Parts of North West started its Hose Pipe ban 2 days ago. It sounds like the ban is set to stay for a goof few months till Autum. Major headache , I cant wash my car! Mate (ok, a little crazy) spent thursday night cleaning both of his car till 1am after work, and I had to take a day off on Thr to clean both of our cars before the ban kicked in!

Does anyone know of a good way to wash the car without hose pipe?? Washing down with bucket doesn't really appeal to me

How about simply driving it to a locale jet wash to get rid of the heavy stuff and then use your two-bucket method to shampoo as normal. Then just use one or two more buckets of clean water to rinse.

It's what did yesterday, only to wake up to a filthy car this morning due to rain with quite heavy dust content.

Few years ago when the hosepipe ban was imposed here, I used watering can to wet the whole car before washing.

i am amazed with all the snow at the beginning of the yr that their reserves are running dry.

Well i just finished washing mine in Derby... feel free to drive here and use as much of my water as you like!

In Ajman, UAE at the moment and been here for the past year - currently 43 degrees and no rain for months - couple of rain showers at Christmas but that was it. Plenty of water, no bans on use etc. SO WHAT THE HELL DO WE DO WITH IT [water] IN THE UK!

Hosepipe ban = totally ridiculous...

My pressure washer has a flow rate of maybe 4 litres per minute. Rinsing the car thoroughly before a wash with it takes maybe a minute, say for argument's sake a minute and a half... So 6 litres max, right?

Doing it with a bucket just now took 3 21 litre buckets... 63 litres!

Yeah, I know if I'd done it with a watering can, it wouldn't have taken that much. But it would definitely have taken more than 6 (ish) litres

Sometimes (not always) but sometimes it's good to live somewhere where it NEVER stops feckin raining.

Just been doing some paint stripping (n, not the car, on metal joist) and not having pressure washer is really painful.

Having said that, used white spirit for the first time in my life. The grease came off amazingly  Can I use it on my car??

and if one of our government's over the past 30 years had spent a little bit of money on desalination plants nor would we, after all we are surrounded by water :headbang:

That's what I have to do. But only because I can't get a hosepipe to the front of the house where the car goes. Try doing it this way.

Hosepipe ban? Ridiculous!

If I go to the butcher and ask for 6 steaks and he says "sorry, I only have 3 steaks" then I am a bit miffed, but at least he charges me for 3 steaks... the bloody water board still charge us 100% even when they slap on a hosepipe ban

i've never used hose pipe yet, so ain't going to effect me

my last company car i had for 18 months and never washed it :P

Not that I ever imagine a hosepipe ban will happen north of the border, but are any of these "waterless carwash" products any good? I'd always be scared washing my car without copious amounts of water to loosen dirt, etc.

I use them to clean under the bonnet or as a detailer when I arrive at a show after a proper clean at home

This is where a water collection tub on your guttering is useful, then tap off the bottom of it and just run the pressure washer off that. No one can complain then, and it'll last a good long while.

The problem with no water is under-investment in new storage facilities. Populations and cities have grown, as have our demands for water, but we continue to use reservoirs and distribution systems from decades ago. You only need to look at the money the shareholders make to understand why you have no hose pipes this summer!

Don't forget that building on former storage areas is popular as well (at least down south).

Don't desalination plants cost an absolute fortune in power though - the government wouldn't dare announce something so lacking in green PR potential...

Can't get a hosepipe to the back of my current house where the car is, two buckets and a couple of sponges works perfectly well. Used to pressure wash it and hosepipe it in the last house and now when I move I wonder I can be bothered going back to the faff of digging both out the garage/shed, hooking them up to a craply fitting tap adapter that soaks the kitchen and then plumbing them together outside. Could've half washed the car by then.

I had that idea too - that they'd be useful to remove small amounts of dirt but not really best suited for a full-on clean...

I'm looking for products to wash our camper van when we're away on holiday. Auto car washes are a no-no, I don't even trust the brush/power/jet washes you get, and campsites don't let you wash vehicle on site. I'm tempted to try one of these waterless products as last time we were in Europe was a 3-week trip and the van was disgusting after a week.
