Now, I am never likely to do that, but I do have fun watching videos of drivers struggling beyond their skills set - so am I right in thinking it costs about £15k for barrier repairs when they inevitably hit them? Plus of course their car is not insured.

Depends how hard you hit, and how long a piece of armco you take out. My mate's bill was only about £2k for a nudge & recovery - plus the other £2k to repair the car.

Insurance is a bit of a grey area, but they'll tend to pay out to the 3rd party only, and you have to cover your own other costs (1st party damage, track closure, helicopter, barrier/track repairs, recovery vehicle, etc.).

I have separate 1st party insurance when I go, but even that won't cover the track costs if I have an accident.

still £4k in total :o

Prices are rising. A while ago the Nurburgring went bankrupt, so the new investors clearly want to see some return.

I found this a very interesting video regarding what all happend when you crash:

Insurance is potentially a major problem for those crashing at the Ring, especially for UK drivers/riders and where other vehicles are involved. Whilst insurers may/will pay for 3rd party costs, they are highly likely to seek to recover their costs from you if you caused the crash.

I was just looking at this earlier , it's been a waste of time doing weekend laps on tourist days for a while now , but at realistically £29 a lap plus fuel to drive around a road mainly used by aggressive nut jobs I reckon I'll be spectating from now , maybe risk a lap or two if I end up going on a Wednesday , but maybe not if you now have to pay up front and create a trail back to how much I actually spend when I'm there , the wife will see and that's not worth the aggro
