Now the speedo has stopped !

Further to my earlier queries about my red warning light, ABS light and traction control lights being permanently on - this morning the speedo isn't working. It was suggested that a piece of gravel might be blocking a sensor, is that still the diagnosis or is it more likely something has come detached. Sorry for being a pain.

Not a pain mate. A lot of us wouldn't be here if we didn't enjoy helping out.

Well, could be an unrelated problem, you could still have a stone chip lodged. In any case, your speedo doesn't work, with all the speed cameras about, that's a problem. I've no idea really, but any time anyone gets odd electrical behaviour, they should ensure their battery is strong and healthy.

The instrument cluster has some test functions that may help narrow down the problem. There's a visual test where all the needles sweep thru their range, this will indicate whether the needle has a problem or it's not getting data. You can also get it to display the speed in the information panel to see if the speed it's getting appears reasonable. My previous post was about coolant temps, but it has a link to the test functions list and instructions, as well as other pertinent information.

I had the same problem three months from new with all those symptoms.....required an ECU module replacement (not the engine ECU as far as I know but a sub-module of some sort). No idea of cost as it was under warranty but it took two hours just to reprogramme the car after it was fitted.....

Sorry to be so vague but it needs a proper BMW diagnostic running on it to be certain. Let us know the outcome? oh and good luck!
