Novice steering wheel question Bmw 1series specific

My modding usually starts & ends with alloy wheels not steering wheels but ive just bought a tidy 120d Sport for mrs w to trundle around in + scoot us over the channel occasionally throughout the year .
Wanted the Sport spec for the trim & seats + the extra poke (162bhp & remap coming :driving: )
Anyhow the steering wheel has no controls for the hi fi on it which id like if possible to rectify with a change of wheel , hence the post , will the wiring be there to upgrade to a multi function steering wheel or is the whole idea a no-no :?
Thanks

Just got rid of our Series 1 after 9 years of ownership, it was 1995 model in SE (or ES) trim with MFSW. Knowing BMW it's highly likely the wiring is already present.
Wish I could be more specific but good luck.

Sorry OP, I wish I knew but my 123d had the MFSW.

Might be worth asking on a more specific website - thinking babybmw, bimmerforums or maybe Pistonheads perhaps.

BTW I don't think Sport gave any extra poke, just better seats, trim, lower suspension and bigger wheels. All pre-facelift 120ds had 162 bhp, then 175 bhp post-facelift but the latter means the dreaded N47 with cam-chain issues like my 123d so probably best avoided! I bailed soon after 80,000 miles and got my Z4 - phew!

Yours probably has the M47 engine which has a reputation for ingesting its swirl flaps, but I believe they can be easily removed with no detrimental effects - apologies if you know all this already!
