Not prepared to pay £350 rtrn to get to ireland so crossing the border north is now looking favourite for myself & mrs w to enjoy some time to ourselves , a V6 TT & hopefully some great roads & scenery
Quick list of intended destination stopovers so all feel free to point any recommended hostelries for good rooms & good food :) or even why we should or shouldnt visit a particular place
In order once we leave home in Lancs the idea is up to 150 miles a day / 3/4hrs drive time ?
Roa Island
Hawick
Pitlochry
Loch ness
Loch lomond
Newton Bowland ( no need for recommendations here as its our favourite country pub destination  The Parkers Arms )
Thanks

£350 on the ferry to Ireland ?

Yes mate , planned dates between 16th/23rd May , 1 car 2 passengers from Wales , £170/£180 each way seemed the average when i was looking a week ago .
I can cross the channel for about £100 so not paying 3 X that just to drink Guinness & drive empty roads , i can do that in Normandy & not have to pay for accommodation

Heading north, the A7 is good and has no cameras. Further north, the A93 is a corker of a road. As is the "Cairn O'Mount" road going back South.

There are loads of roads on the west coast that are good. Any road leading to Eilean Donan Castle is good, e.g. the A87.

Roads around Dunkled are awesome, and there's a nice place on the river called Taybank that's rather good. :)

So in general my intended route/stop offs are unlikely to disappoint ?
If so just need overnight recommendations

Yeah - you've got the bases covered :)

Not too sure about overnight stops. Most of my outings are single day trips
