Not so automatic wipers

Is there a way to leave the wipers on automatic (with the green light on) all the time even when you have switched ignition off. My wipers have to be turned back on whenever you use the car.

I know it sounds incredibly lazy, but why have auto wipers if you have to manually switch them on when it starts to rain.

They turn off so that if they are frozen to the windscreen in the morning, when you turn the power on, they dont burn out the motors.

...or something like that.

And yes, that is lazy. Pressing that button is the only exercise I get!

You can't keep it on all the time.... and when are you going to put some pics up , I want to see dsb with walnut!? :poke:

lux good

- I'll try this weekend and post some. I leave for work in dark, park in dim underground car park and drive home in the dark so very few photo opportunities. I also need to wash the car first for fear of the wrath from posting a dirty car on this forum!

I ummed and ahhhed for ages about the walnut but really liked it when it arrived.

I didn't like it when I first saw pics, but ive changed my mind and I really like it. I think walnut on black looks the dogs bollocks, but think dsb and walnut would look really classy with wood trim.

The dsb, walnut and wood trim does create more of a refined look than boy racer to be honest, so would not suit everyone's tastes given that the car is supposed to be a roadster at the end of the day. I had to negotiate with the other half (who to be fair pays half the cost) and that's where we came out. I do really like it though. We were going to go for the standard silver trim but the dealer said with walnut the wood looked better so took his advice.

I see you can now buy the car in a bright tangerine colour - looking forward to seeing one of those.

back on topic, for what it's worth i've had 2 hondas with auto wipers and they stayed ON when switched on until swithched off.

i still find the BMW method a bit strange.

I like the fact they turn off at power off. Imagine you'd forgotten they were on in an auto car wash and they fired up when the car wash starts only for them to tangle and get ripped off, or as mentioned, they're frozen to the screen and fire up burning out the motors (motors do burn out, I did it on a Mini trying to clear too much snow from the screen).

Not that I'd EVER take MY car through an auto wash, but you know what I mean.

Had a good laugh once when my daughter poured warm water over the icy windscreen of her mitsubushi with auto wipers which came on and left her soaked :D

I am still in the 'they should stay on' camp though. However I don't like the headlight washers coming on all the time and draining my washer bottle

A mate has got a cayenne which defrosts the outside of the windscreen (takes about a minute) and once that cycle is done the wipers and jets go to town. All automatic you just turn on the engine and watch it happen. But then you do have to drive round in a cayenne...

I like the new Cayenne. Much better than driving around in a pimps Range Rover, or even worse a Range Rover Sport. You got to be a total d**k to drive one of them!
