North South divide

 End of A590 cul de sac (South Cumbria)
Just been away for 3 days on a business trip to Poole/Woking - 750 miles round trip
Observations of a country cousin on the difference in driving standards
(Obviously not including the nice people and discerning drivers on here)

I wish I had a pound for every time I was cut up on the motorway (mainly white vans)
Woe betide if I left a gap of more than two cars length, or missed the one flash of an indicator that apparently is authorisation to pull out!

I often flashed a car that was about to be slowed up by a truck (before or as they indicated) - acknowledgments - Nil!

Speed cameras, have you bought a job lot? they are everywhere

Traffic lights - apparently red amber and green mean the same thing - GO

Box junctions - road art, no other function

Anyway, home safely now, changed into my flat cap and jeans - whippets fed and watered :P

Zed count = 3, (2 E85, 1 E89) I guess you were all at work or they were safely tucked up in the garage waiting for the week-end
 
You might be right, though often if you look you'll find it.

I wonder if it's due to their being more cars on the road down South

................... you know on account of the fewer pit ponies and steam engines

Regretfully yes and it's easy to spend more time concentrating on their whereabouts than perhaps one should!
PS did you appreciate the southern use of "one" :)

Think you are right, different pace of life to up't north
was all a bit tongue in cheek, although the gap/white van thing was quite noticable

Definately! especially the variable ones on the Motorway
Never noticed the use of 'one' TBH

my main concern was my pint of bitter was £4+ and ............... it had no head on it :(
good job I never asked for Chips, Cheese and Gravy!
 
I think it is areas rather than a north south divide. I'm from the north, but lived south for 8 years now. I drive from a sleepy village in Berkshire, over to Wiltshire every day.

In said sleepy village, most people are rude, barge through the road in their cars without road priority and still don't raise a hand, getting out of the village in the morning can be a mission. I get into Wiltshire and people go out if their way to be kind on the roads, but also drive so slowwww.
 
I moved to South of Scotland from South of England, they are worlds apart in so many ways and you nicely highlighted some of them.
 
You need to come down here - awful roads - mostly narrow - only one stretch of dual carriageway ( about 400 yards long :rofl: ) usual white van men around behaving as you would expect ! Islanders mostly drive slower although in recent years we have lost many young lives with newly qualified young drivers :( :(

Drove out of our village this morning to be confronted by a pack of bloodhounds being exercised along the road - apparently this is the latest thing following the demise of traditional hunting .
 
You should try driving in Malaysia, now that's an experience...
