Non starter

The AA man who came out to mine told me that random starter failures are common on all models of BMW.
The new one spins the engine over much more enthusiastically than the old one as well!

Hi You don't have to take the manifold off but you do have to move pipe work and electrics and it is a bloody night mare. You need to be able to get under the car for the bottom bolt and work from the top for the top one. I cannot remember which way round this is. One of the bolts you cannot see, but you can get a spanner on {think it is the top} and the other you can only turn a quarter and put the spanner on again for another quarter until you can move it with your fingers. Best of luck and don't swear to loud some one might hear you.

Weegeoff, thanks for the top tip. I'll look into doing it that way. Thanks🤞. enuff_zed I've got a set of ratchet spanners. A very good bit of kit. 👍

Don't forget to disconnect the battery first. Then take the lead off the starter motor which will make it easier to pull out, watch out for the earth

Hi guys , so it wasn't as hard a job as I thought. The motor is off and waiting for the new one to arrive. It only took me 2 hours. I'm quite pleased with myself. I've taken a couple of pictures. Don't think putting it all back together will be too stressful, that's only if I forget to plug in a cable or two. 😂
