Noise from rear

Morning folks, brought the car out the garage this morning and there's a buzzing noise coming from the rear. Noise starts on start up while stationary. My first thought was the fuel pump but thought I'd ask you knowledgable lot before diving In. If it is a noisey fuel pump, is it a big job to change?

Not that I noticed. I've went out a run about and it seems to have stopped now 🤔

Those were my thoughts, but would expect that to come and go dependent on revs. :?

Was more a buzzing/humming noise. Not a tinnie noise. It was there when I turned on the ignition before I cranked the engine over then stayed when started. That's what made me think it was the fuel pump. Seems to have sorted itself out though. Just need to keep an eye on it I suppose.

That sounds very much like the fuel pump as mine was doing the same a few weeks back when I turned the key to bring up the dash lights you get the humming sound when the pump is priming the fuel system I also had a vibration go through the seat.

I did not drive it but started it a few times on the drive and got worse affecting the idle and when I took to a good indy near me it was even worse you could here it when sitting in traffic.

The job itself you have to drop the tank and slide back to access the pump they charged me 2 hours labour.
 
Mine occasionally makes a whining noise, a nearly steady pitch. It tends be on tickover.
I’m new to the Z4 but I’ve had a fuel pump on another vehicle making a similar noise.
If it is the fuel pump, I don’t believe it necessarily means it’s about to fail.
Put the stereo on and I can’t hear it.
 
I'd check that the battery is maintaining a good voltage when static and having been left for a while. I had the same whine from the rear at initial start-up after the car had been parked for a couple of days, but would disappear after a couple of minutes. I didn't realise that the battery was starting to fade, when I changed the battery a few weeks later the fuel pump noise went.

You can also also try running a dose of fuel cleaner through the system to shift plaque deposits and lube the pump.
