No Z4 for now it's a lighter path.

Great choice congrats. Would be interesting to know how it fares as a daily space wise, I'm still taken aback by how small they look on the road.

I've been looking at the 2.0 RF as replacement for the Hyundai Kona but just on the fence at present whether I can live with the physical size. My old Z3 won over the MX5 back in 2008 as the boot was just that bit larger.

Love the look of the latest MX5 though.

Tim.

I liked the look of the RF. The view out the rear is not clever though, put me off. Time will tell on boot space. All my climbing gear fits in. That is the current deffacto test for me. It will always be a fun car. My Mazda2 remains for the daily chores.

No doubt we will be off on weekends away in it. So will discover how it fairs with a bit more luggage in the boot.

The MK3 MR2 I had for a short while had virtually no storage whatsoever, no boot or glovebox but somehow you make it work :)

The MX5 will be a good companion to the Mazda2, all I would say is don't spill emulsion paint in the boot like my neighbour did with hers, all 5 litres of it :o It was with Mazda for months trying to get the parts, new back seats, carpets etc

Tim.

Very nice! I have had my ND for nearly three years now and still really enjoy driving it. They're good out of the factory, but you can get much more out of them with some aftermarket modifications. The Owners Club is fantastic as well with active regional groups and national meets. I've met a lot of people through it.

Before I found out about Z4s due to a YouTube guy called Joel, I spent my time looking at mx5s, the mk3.5 with the hardtop convertible. I sometimes wonder if I made a mistake in not buying one instead of the z4. Probably more reliable.

Mrs G loves hers. I find the mk3 a bit less sharp, than the mk2 and mk4. All handle well though.

As nothing, aside from the radiator fan and centre brake light, ever broke on my ///MR, I can't comment on relative reliability. Mazda's are pretty bullet proof though.

To be fair to the old chap, he’s ‘only’ needed a new starter, new rear springs, front calliper, wipers that stop up the windscreen (again) and on and off sticking steering. :headbang:

With any Mk I, Mk II or Mk III MX-5, check very carefully for rust, especially in the not easily viewed areas. It isn't as endemic on here, but on the MX-5 forum there are lots of posts about it. The first thing I did with mine was to get it undersealed by MX5 Restorers in Pevensey near Brighton https://themx5restorer.co.uk/.

Even the ND (Mk 4) will rust. Worth treating if it's a keeper - I have had mine done although I fully expect to need to revisit that job if I still have it in years to come.

Indeed This is the fourth Mx5 to sit on our drive. All previous have been undersealed. This one will live in the garage, but still going to get it thoroughly checked underneath and sealed as required. The engine bay has a few tiny spots of rust too, I will sort those myself. Externally the paintwork is immaculate. seems better quality than on the mk3. :)

Funnily enough, we tried an 124 Spider a few weeks ago. Really good fun to drive, it was a hoot with the 1.4 turbo, but it was suffering a rusty boot lid (2017 car)… apparently a common problem, so Fiat took the MX5 and made it even more prone to rust :headbang:

Only ever owned one FIAT absolutely loved it. :driving:  But never again.

I like the shape of the Fiat 124 Spider but I would prefer a naturally aspirated 6 cylinder. The 2.0 Mazda engine would have made it much nicer IMO.

I couldn't agree more - Fiat styling with Mazda drivetrain would be great!
