I bought some sweets last week for Trick or Treat. But where are the children this year? I have none so far. I think their parents went to Halloween parties and left them at home. I had at least 15 visitors last year.
none to luckily, only ever had one or two where we live now, but was surprised being a Saturday that there were none, must have gone to the fireworks instead.
Two years ago I had loads of the "little mites" round hassling me.
So last year I put green contact lenses in my eyes, powdered my face and put a hoody on. When they then started to knock on the door, I flung it open and frightened them half to death - much to the annoyance of some parents, as they chased after their offspring
This year - no problems (or kids!!) to report.
Me too, switch all lights off at the front of the house ( living room at the back) and ignore any knocks at the door. They tend to run off when they set the dog off barking anyway.Usually we just go out for a meal to get away from it all. Never had one little'un able to do any tricks for sweets anyway, have had kids tell me they can't do any tricks, then stick out their paws for a treat,feckers..... Penny for the guy when I was small was the big thing, ( yeah, yeah, I know, I'm an old git) and loads of effort went into making the guys, and we'd borrow dad's wheelbarrow and parade it round the village and get coins tossed into the wheelbarrow, collect them up and hit the village shop for sweets. We put some effort in, and got something back.I think I'm getting more miserable as I get older, Victor Meldrew's got competition........
When I lived in a not so desirable part of town I used to hide too, but for fear one of the hoppers (kids from drug corners) might empty his clip into me because the cocaine I was handing out was cut too much! Best case was they’d be rolling without hardware and instead of “trick or treat?” I’d be offered “head or gut?”
This year I'm in a nicer neighbourhood so I actually bought some sweets... nothing. Ingrates. Next year I'm half tempted to bus a load of kids in from the old neighbourhood to teach this new lot a little respect.
NB: The part about my previous residence may have been dressed up slightly (entirely fabricated) to disguise my Meldrew like tendencies. :x
