No Touchscreen or HUD for future Z4s

Swiftly

Just been reading this post which is news to me. https://www.bimmerfest.com/threads/major-option-restriction-announcement.1420312/#post-13612082

The new screens on Z4s will not offer touchscreen capability with a $500 credit applied. Also, Backup Assistant will not be available. :(

Also mentioned is that the HUD is not available any longer:

"Please note that, due to supply restrictions, we are forced to remove option 610 Head-up Display for several models on which it was bundled within ZPP Premium Package. The affected models are base-engine variants of 2er Coupe & Gran Coupe, 3er, 4er Coupe, Convertible, and Gran Coupe, Z4, X3 and X4. ZPP will be phased out and replaced with ZP2 Premium Package 2, which contains all of the same content as ZPP except option 610. Pricing and Ordering Guides will also be updated shortly."

Still available here in the U.K.

Alas not, at least as far as the HUD is concerned - we're in the same boat if you poke around the configurator - but notice the restriction is on 'base-engine variants' of those models. All you lucky lucky people still waiting for your M40is ought to be fine, it's us peasants with an sDrive20i/30i on order that are anxiously waiting to find out if they'll be built as ordered or be missing even more bits...

(The touchscreen is a new restriction, though, and could be interesting; I thought there were a couple of fiddly-around bits in iDrive 7 that could only be done via touch, which dismayed me slightly on my test drive. Admittedly I didn't spend too long poking around in iDrive when there was driving to be enjoyed!)

Are you referring to Touchscreen Orii? Have you heard that it is still available from a dealer? Have to say I’m very worried!!

I haven’t heard anything. I just went on configure and it had all the options for an m40i.

I would be worried too. I think the touch screen is very important. This chip shortage is getting worse not better!
Car spec is supposed to get better not worse!
If your car arrives without the spec you ordered then you have a fight on your hands. I really don’t envy you.

I’m hoping things work out for you both as this is really unfair.

Agreed - touchscreen is essential. This smacks of BMW trying to protect their revenue by still shipping cars even though they have an incomplete spec. Customer satisfaction is clearly lowest on their priority list.

Jesus. Just went onto the config and for the 20/30 you can’t add the tech pack at all! You can add the HK system separately, but WTF!?!?!?

I hope you guys are ok, but this is very worrying for you. I don’t think you won’t know until your car is actually scheduled for build and this is really unfair on you.

When I had my g29, I never used the idrive controller. I always used the touch screen. It’s essential for apple car play too.

Very poor from BMW if the touchscreens disappear from cars.

Surely if BMW deliver a car outside of spec ordered, the very least you can expect is your deposit back?

But I don't want my deposit back, I want a touchscreen :x

So, what will you do if told no touchscreen?

My initial reaction would be to say I'd just cancel it, but tbh I'm not sure what I'd do instead! As mine is still likely to be several months away I've probably got time to think about it, and possibly supply may improve again before my build is started.

[ref]blaster1956[/ref], [ref]Scubaregs[/ref], I have to say with the current changes/deletions/shortages this is one that I could live without. I don’t use my touchscreen much at all. I would rather loose that than my HUD to HK. I doubt very it would make me cancel my order just like the wireless charging and digital key, they wouldn’t bother me either.

All my personal opinion, people have different things that are important to them

Interesting thoughts Andy. So if you don't use the touchscreen much do you use iDrive, voice control or a combination?

I guess my own views are somewhat tainted by the fact my wife's XC40 is pretty much all driven through the touchscreen - Aircon, Satnav, Phone/Media, etc, there is no alternative, and the Volvo touchscreen is brilliant.

Something else bothering me - on the E89 I just remember what a faff it was to enter an address into the satnav using the iDrive, has this improved?

Blaster, I don’t know if it’s as simple as a case of because I’m 6’2 and find I have to stretch to reach and use the touchscreen that I don’t bother that much with it, one feature I do like in the iDrive controller is that you can draw on it so you can enter a postcode there and there’s also voice control though I have to say it can sometimes struggle with a Glaswegian accent

I’m not saying I don’t use the touchscreen at all but I could live without it rather than cancel my order because it’s been deleted

Also worth noting this is a weekend and fun car for me, the above may be different if it was my daily and I was needing to use things and change settings regularly

Yeah another lofty guy here at 6'3, and it's a weekend car for me too, so maybe I could live with it.

I guess the other option is whether BMW (or a third party) will offer a retrofit once touchscreen supply is available again. I'd imagine (as this seems to affect pretty much the entire BMW range) we haven't even begun to see the full fallout from this yet.

Just hope things change for the better over the next couple of months before my build starts.

I have an untouched touchscreen. My OCD won’t allow it to be used :)

I do use voice control a lot and find it works pretty well for navigation destinations.
